In the Forerunner saga, Most of the Halos were brought back to the Home world so to speak and alot of them were destroyed with the exception of the 7 we see in the halo games. There is also talk of one Halo that went dark and lost contact with before the end of the series. Why did the Halo go dark? Will we learn more about it or will it be swept under the rug with all of the other missing lore? Back to the case at hand. How many halo’s are left that the created could gain control of?
The UNSC has only seen 3 of the 7 installations. 04 (destroyed), 05 and 03.
Pretty sure the ‘dark ring’ you’re referring to is the one that became installation 07 of the current array.

They’ve seen 07 too, its in one of the books.

You’re forgetting Installation 07 and Installation 04’s replacement. It is also possible that the ring in Halo Wars 2 is one not already on this list.
In 2559 the Minor Ark should be functioning, after the events of Hunters in the Dark
Well there were 12… then 7, and humanity has found 4 (technically 5) there’s 03, 04, 05, 07, and 0,4’s replacement. There should still be six: however the grater Ark could be remaking them so that they are at 12 again since the lesser ark was destroyed.

The lesser ark was just damaged, and has managed to repair itself as seen in Hunters in the Dark and now Halo Wars 2.
The greater ark’s been destroyed since before activation of the array.

Alright. I haven’t read hunters in the dark.

Could be a replacement for the replacement of 04. 04c?
6 or 7. It depends if the lesser Ark has managed to create another replacement for Installation 04/04B but it has been under reparation so it’s more likely only 6 still remains. The Original Ark was destroyed and if i remember correct the rings created by the Original Ark was destroyed as well. I don’t fully remember the Forerunner Trilogy. Either way 6 is the most assumed correct number so far.
Installation 03 was found, but currently in an unknown location receiving repairs.
Installation 04 was found, destroyed and so was its replacement.
Installation 05 was found, and most of its surface glassed to contain the Flood.
Installation 07 was found and remains under UNSC control.
The Halo seen at the end of Halo 5 is most likely 01, 02, or 06.

Which halo ring was completely flood infested? Wasn’t it 07?

The flood infested one was 05.

No, there was another one with at least 3 proto-graveminds, and the entire surface was converted to flood biomass.
i’m wondering if thats not the one that went dark.
Also what about the Ring from Broken Circle? It was reformed at the end of the book. Or was that more of a shield world ring type?

That was pieces of the former Shield World (0673, IIRC) linking together into a ring-shaped space station, not an Array Installation.
So does that mean in essence, all shield worlds could be turned into Halo’s without the firepower. Holy crap. What if the shield worlds aren’t just shields but mega weapons we have yet to discover how to use them. Wouldn’t that be a kicker in Halo Lore.
3-7
Assuming major catastrophes haven’t happened off-screen, there are six extant rings, one of which is a modified older model (paid some lip service in Hunters in the Dark, where they remarked about how the ring doesn’t have a control room). Some rings are in a sorry state (05 and 03 have both been toasted pretty hard), but all six remain capable of firing.
