How many credits will you earn for Forge?

Hello Halo community, and welcome to the last day of the rest of your life!

We all saw the Forge World vi-doc, and I’m sure many of us are extremely hyped for this game. The Campaign, Matchmaking, Firefight… they are all amazing. And the new credits system encourages invested play. But what about Forge? From earlier videos (sorry I can’t find them at the moment) and the beta we see players earning thousands of credits from just one play through of Campaign, MM, and Firefight. Will Forge be the same?

From what it seems, Bungie is indeed awarding credits for time spent in Forge (and the game knows the difference between actively playing, idle, and the rubber band trick). But just how many credits can a Forger make in a time period? Well, the Bungie panel at Comic-Con seems to have answered that question for me. And that number is:

.68 credits/second or 1.45 seconds/credit

Now, don’t worry, I will explain how I got these numbers. Though if you want to skip the rest of my post, feel free, all that is left is boring calculations

During the Bungie panel, a full game of Forge is shown, throughout Part two and some of Part three of these videos.

The Forge session starts around 3:12 in part two and lasts the rest of the part two video (12:26). That leaves a difference of 9:14. Part three continues the forge session until 6:00, so adding these two Forge times together gives us 15:14. Converting 15:14 to seconds gives us 914 seconds of Forge coverage, after which the player is rewarded with 630 credits.

Dividing 630 by 914 gives us the number of credits earned per second, and dividing 914 by 630 gives us the number of seconds needed per credit.

Now, if you stayed with me this long you are quite brave, so I will give you a special treat. Taking the .68 credits/sec and multiplying it by 3600 gives us the number of credits earned per hour, which is:

2,448 credits/hour (exactly!)<!-- google_ad_section_end →

Don’t worry now, this is far from a substantial income and is not the best way to earn credits. In fact, let me prove it to you (Oh no, more math!).

The most expensive Armor effect is the lightning head. It costs 2,000,000 Cr. If all you did was Forge, it would take you 800 hours of forging just to save up enough Cr to get this one item.

I know during the first few months. Most of my credits will be from forging. And adding the ability to earn credits through other areas of the game is an awesome feature. Also for those who havent yet. Check out the videos posted from the OP. Alot of neat information.

Nice write-up, P3P5l.

Can’t I just pay for the armor and flair. I’d pay 60 dollars for it.

For the asking price of 2 million credits, you might as well steal six months of my life energy.

Damn, now that’s some crazy math. Eh, I think while I’ll be playing a lot of Forge, I probably won’t do it for the cR. I’ve got Campaign, Firefight, and Matchmaking for that.

Please tell me you’re joking. Don’t give them any ideas.

Almost as long as it takes to line up two fence panels in the current Halo 3 forge!

lol, thanks for the replies everyone!

Good job on coming up with hard numbers using just the preview media. Important to note that it’s been said that the Credit earning potential in Forge has been artificially capped. No matter how much time you spend in Forge you will hit a hard limit of Credits earned eventually and earn no more Credits in the same session after hitting it.

I just hope players don’t ‘Milk’ the system by leaving their controllers unattended for a few hours. Hopefully there is some sort of way to resolve the issue, such as perhaps depending on the amount of money you spend on Forge Items + Hours spent building.

I forget where but bungie has dealt with that issue. So people who do hope to get credits by leaving their controllers won’t. They said leaving a rubber band on your controller won’t earn you any credits either.

One thing I plan on doing with Reach’s forge is figuring out when exactly the cut off is for credits and post a follow-up thread for it.

There’s plenty of hardcore Forge users out there that will give you that information soon after Reach is released. I see many of the more dedicated Forge fans jumping straight into the mode above all others first.

Very good write up my good ser. I beleive that if credits are going to be implemented somewhere then there should be a cap. Such as 2000 to 5000 credits. Forge credits should be a bonus and not a reason to forge.

Dont I know you somewhere P3P5I

If this is correct, then I know I’ll be earning that armor eventually. I plan on spending a ton of time in Forge.

That whole first week of release will be All REACH all the time. Between the Campaign, MP, and Forge, and maybe a smidge of FF, I figure on racking up a nice amount of creds. I’m shooting for 16-18 hours a day from that Tuesday to that Sunday. That being 96 hours.

Thanks Bungie for making a Forger’s dream come true!

i hope to god that you can make gates that work. it would probly take a heck of a lot of time to make a working gate if thats even possible

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe in a BWU Q&A segment this was confirmed to be false.

Well, seeing as we have all the new features, that number will probably be easier to obtain than in Halo 3 where it took anywhere from 15 to 120 extra seconds to trick forge.

With as much time as I’m going to spend on Forge I am going to earn quite a few credits. I wonder if you would be able to trick the system with something like an oscillating fan tied to your analog sticks…

I think its a max of 2500 an hour.
