So? Just because Halo Legends shows it as 2556, it doesn’t mean that 343i has to follow that year.

not it wasnt, halo 3 ends in 2553 it’s been said it takes place years after halo 3 not sure how many years but i heard its confirmed to take place 2556

Uh, yes it does. Halo Legends was a 343 production and an official part of the canon.
At Halo fest (and in numerous interviews), it has been stated that Halo 4 will take place several years after Halo 3, that the Chief will have been asleep for “awhile”.
OXM based their statement on the 2554 Warthog that was premiered at Halo fest, not official information.

Its been said that Cortana will be rampant or nearing rampancy in Halo 4. This would put it in or around 2556. Not much earlier, and probably not too much later.

Somebody find the video of Frank O’Connor playing Firefight in Anniversary where he states it takes place a few years after Halo 3. And I can’t remember if he said it in the recent podcast as well.

Cortana: Near the end of her lifespan. Which is several years. So nearing Rampancy or is already somewhat rampant.
UNSC Infinity: Contains both reverse engineered Covenant and Forerunner tech.
Spartans: The Spartan-IV’s are the latest generation. They are being trained by the veteran Spartan-II’s(Fred, Kelly, Linda). The remaining Spartan-III’s were also drafted into the Spartan-IV’s. Franklin Mendez is also possibly a teacher for the Spartan-IV’s.
MJOLNIR: Current iteration is the MJOLNIR Mark VII. First prototype was produced in 2553 and given to a Spartan-II(Her name eludes me at the moment.) It has incorporated Nanotechnology, given it the ability to both repair and upgrade itself while the user is in cryo stasis, or removes and powers it down. By 2556-2557 you would expect it to be at mass production.
OXM knows nothing, 2553 is not the date, all of Halo: Legends is canon except Odd One Out. This puts the current date at no earlier than 2556.
I would like to interject this quote from the March 1 2012 Halo Bulletin:
“However attempting to wake a person from their normal sleep cycle and trying to rouse a super-soldier who has been in a state of deep sleep for years are two completely different stories.”
I realize this is just a small quip, but I believe it’s at least something to go on. Definitely not timeline confirmation, but it seems like a deliberate tease, similar to the one from the week before:
“Even a Forerunner weapon incorporates some of the elements from that gun session.”
Jess seems intent on giving us little teasing plugs about Halo 4, and I’m personally paying attention. You should too. They are not official confirmation, but in the case of Master Chief’s stasis, it is certainly supported by the current canon (specifically “Origins” from Halo Legends). I would give the Master Chief a waking up range from 2556 to as late as 2583, personally.

I both like and dislike your date assumptions. I like it, because your using Legends as a starting point and going from there. However, I have to disagree with your assumed possible latest date. I know its speculation, but i’m one of the fans who want to see Spartan-II Blue Team(Fred, Kelly, and Linda) introduced in the games. With that latest date, they’d be pretty old or dead. Though Halsey is still alive in 2587 to give Noble Six’s eulogy. Still though, I think 2556 to maybe 2558 is a better assumption.

Yes it is. With the exception of certain artistic licenses and the episode “Odd One Out”, it’s completely canon.
