There are already. Halo Glasslands features a ship that can make faster and more precise slipspace jumps than any other human ship we know of due to upgrades based on Forerunner tech. Even in just 4 years, a lot can happen.

OXM is wrong. The Halo Legends episode “Origins” shows the Chief in cryo as late as 2556, so Halo 4 has to take place after this.

It takes a LONG time to reverse engineer technology. Take the TU-4 for instance. It took around 3 years for a simple copy of the B-29 to be made, with 3 different ones to use as references. Imagine how long it would take to reverse engineer technology from an alien civilization thousands of years ahead of you, with materials you might not have access to.
Now, I haven’t read any of the books (though I want to), so if they already have then that’s my mistake. I’m just going off real life examples.

I was literally going to post this, Chief has been in cryo for three years.
OXM don’t know everything, they don’t get the run-down of all the games before they come out, they have to do the individual research.

So? Just because Halo Legends shows it as 2556, it doesn’t mean that 343i has to follow that year.

not it wasnt, halo 3 ends in 2553 it’s been said it takes place years after halo 3 not sure how many years but i heard its confirmed to take place 2556

Uh, yes it does. Halo Legends was a 343 production and an official part of the canon.
At Halo fest (and in numerous interviews), it has been stated that Halo 4 will take place several years after Halo 3, that the Chief will have been asleep for “awhile”.
OXM based their statement on the 2554 Warthog that was premiered at Halo fest, not official information.

Its been said that Cortana will be rampant or nearing rampancy in Halo 4. This would put it in or around 2556. Not much earlier, and probably not too much later.

Somebody find the video of Frank O’Connor playing Firefight in Anniversary where he states it takes place a few years after Halo 3. And I can’t remember if he said it in the recent podcast as well.
