How long has Halo 4 been in development?

I heard it was in development since Halo 3 came out but I just wanted to make sure.

Nope, its been in development since 2009. In the most recent sparkast they say its been 3 years or perhaps 3 and a half years. Its been a long time to say the least.

According to yesterday’s podcast, it’s been in development for 3-3.5 years.

What they said, ~3 years. It worries me about Halo 5. I don’t think they’ll stick to a 3 year release schedule like Bungie did. It’s been 2 years since the last core Halo game, so I expect they’re going for 2 years til another core game. And it’s either Halo 2 Anniversary or Halo 5.

I would go with Halo 2 Anniversary being first.

they also said they had a whole year for prototyping and a team of 300

that brings the total to 4 years

Halo 2 Anniversary fits for a 2014 release if it did happen.

2008, I think. 4 years. But real development probably started in 2010, when the engine was finished.

Edit: MS said that they want a two real release cycle for the Reclaimer Trilogy.

ODST then started on Halo 4

Halo: Reach was developed by Bungie, and the Defiant and Anniversary map packs were created by Certain Affinity. 343i, and Microsoft, only published them.

Halo: Anniversary was not done by 343i either. Another studio, can’t remember the name at the moment, redid the graphics while 343i and Microsoft published them as well.

They’ve been working on Halo 4 at least before Reach had its public Beta.

I think your concerns for Halo 5 are justified. It wouldn’t surprise me if they push for a launch with the new Xbox 720, which looks like it’ll be out the backend of 2013 (obviously informed speculation).

Although this would mean only a year of Halo 4, so perhaps unlikely. Maybe, they’ll release Halo 4 in 3D for the new console, that would prob be a suitable marketing gimmick.

Not long enough for them to have good competitive ideas.

Think they said 3.5 years which was in the new podcast.

343i said the new trilogy is a ten year project, so a numbered Halo is going to be every 3-4 years. They will release yearly material though in the form of books, DLC, and hopefully side games like ODST and CEA.

Before anyone gets thier hopes up, a long development time doesn’t mean it will automatically be good. Just think everyone should be cautious with that line of thinking.

ODST was made by Bungie…

Okay, thanks.

I hope it’s not going to be every 2 or 3 years. I think that was one of the mistakes Bungie made. Too long in between each game gave time for COD to slip in. At first COD couldn’t hang with Halo but every game has it’s life cycle. After a year or so people are going to lose interest and want some thing new.

I honestly think they should release a game every year. I think that could maybe put halo back on top.

How do you figure that? Bungie developed for 3 years. 343 develops for 3 years. Halo will keep the same release schedule.

But that most likely means it will be finished :stuck_out_tongue:
