To be honest, I can’t imagine this game lasting a long time like the other halos did. Although it’s just the beta, I feel like the things 343 included into this game just don’t work for halo. of course we want a game that will have a lot of people playing but is also fun to the old halo players. Can halo 5 be that game? Not at all if it continues down this road. But this is just my opinion. What do you guys think? Will halo 5 last for a good amount of time? (say a year or two). Or will it end up like halo 4’s population that died after like what, 6 months?
6 months is a stretch, halo 4 died in like 2.
Microsoft wants halo to last till 2030. I think possible because of forge and campaign
I don’t see it lasting long. They are alienating their core and trying to appeal to people that will leave after 2-3 months.

It has been out 2 years and I still find plenty of players to play with and very little wait time. Less wait time than in TMCC that’s for sure. So I would say H4 is doing plenty fine and so will H5.
When it comes to Halo there are now 2 options. Someone wants to stick to the old so in that case they can play TMCC. Others want the new, they play Halo 5.
The industry has moved into an age where success is not determined by how long a population can be sustained, but rather by units sold. Period. It just isn’t realistic to expect the next title to sustain a population like Halo 3. 3 had no other serious shooters competing, except CoD, and that only just. Times change, gamers change with them, and 343 has already painfully realized that they cannot please everyone. Not possible. Just make a game, most of us will buy, some of us will play if for more than two months, some won’t. Who cares when there’s a new Titanfall or Destiny or Call of Battlefield right around the corner???

Yup that’s exactly what most don’t realize. Back when H3 was out, there was no competition and hardly any other games to play. Now its insane how many FPS games are available at a given time. COD, BF4, Halo, Destiny, FC4, TMCC and a long list of other games pouring out all the time every year. So no we will never ever in history ever see the amount of players that were in Halo 3, because there are just way too many games to play now. The community is always moving around to new games especially right after they are released. H5 will do just fine just like H4 is doing just fine. The players that don’t like H4 or H5 will play TMCC.
Halo cannot be successful the way it’s going. Don’t kid yourself guys, halo 4 was by far the biggest failure out of all the halo games (halo 1-4 + reach) and halo 5 just feels like a combination of halo 4 and reach. They completely went away from what the core halo players want. Sure we all start with the same gun but sprint? Thrusters? Climbing? Smart scope? We want halo to evolve but please not this way. Halo 5 barely takes any skill to be good at. Trust me if halo keeps going down this road it will be the franchise to forget

I was looking up release dates earlier. Halo 2 had no competition. There was a Call of Duty about a year before Halo 3 and one shortly afterwards, along with the first Battlefield title on consoles. People seem to forget this and assume that Halo 2 was so popular because it was so good and not simply because it was the only real choice in console shooters.
These days nothing is going to last longer than a year simply because of the crazy release schedules of late.

Yeah, Halo 3 only managed to keep the top spot for 3 years straight with the only competition being:
- COD MW
- COD WAW
- COD MW2
- Far Cry 2
- Gears of War
- Gears of War 2
- Left 4 Dead
- FIFA 07
- FIFA 08
- FIFA 09
- GTA IV
- Battlefield Bad Company
- Battefield 1943
- Bioshock
- Assassins Creed
- Crackdown
- Rainbow Six Vegas
- And MOREThank god Halo 4 could fight of these games there sequels, right?
I mean it is not like GTA V currently has the same popularity if not more as Halo 3 did back then?
Or that Halo 4 is losing from even Skyrim, while Oblivion was on 360 as well and did not beat 3, or how 4 was losing from both Fifa 13 as 14. But no you’re right guys it was definitely the increase in competition.
But hey lets pretend Halo 4 with its now meager population of -3000 was just as good as Reach (current pop about 4000) and Halo 3 (current pop about 3500).
Also you included Destiny as competition for Halo 4? Surely you jest.

Compared to other halo games halo 4 did not hold a high population for that long, halo mcc has longer wait times because it is broken.
