We’re already seeing a major decline in population. It’s only a matter of time before Halo becomes free to play, and we start seeing 343 implement pay to win packs to break even on their investments.
The question is, how soon ?
I’m pretty sure that this will never happen. Halo has enough players and sales to never become free unless its old.

343i will never implement micro transactions because they can’t, that’s Microsoft’s decision. 343i has no say in the matter.
Halo isn’t an MMO. Just because someone isn’t playing halo doesn’t mean they aren’t paying for Xbox Live.
I’m not an expert on XBL, but does the subscription costs even go the company playing the games you play? If not, 343 has done perfectly fine money-wise. Maybe low-dlc sales at worst.
