How KOTH should have been.

A few days before the release of H4, I randomly thought “If I were a dev, I’d add King of the Hill. That’d be so cool!” To my surprise, KOTH WAS added. But it’s not really King of the Hill without a hill, it feels like a slightly modified Territory game :frowning:

My idea is that it would be similar in design as grifball, where the playlist would have lots of forge maps with actual hills, the hill markers at the top.

Everyone would have at least 3x overshields, gravity hammers, slightly slower speed, and slightly less gravity.

In order to keep competition off the hill, you can either bash them in the face enough to kill them, or use the gravity pulse from the hammer to push your opponents off the hill. It’s 8 player Free For All, and everyone has a timer box in the corner of their screen that reads 1:00. Every second you’re on the hill, the timer goes down one second. First to hit 0 wins, but there’s also a 10 min match timer. With less kills and matches that last no longer than 10 min, that would hopefully throw off boosters etc.

What if there are 2 or more people on the hill? Then the time gets split, so 2 people would have their timers going down at half speed, and so on. That’s a pretty good incentive to keep the hill clear of competition.

If you do get knocked off the hill, you simply need to climb back up and prove your strength. The hills are a bit large and have multiple walkways to the top to prevent the guarding of only one entrance, but forge world users could probably create cool custom variants, like a stepping stone KOTH with extra low gravity.

KOTH could have been so much more, and instead we get modified territories!

Until there are real hills, I’m not convinced.

I was inspired by one of the many modes in the not so popular PS1 game “Ball Breakers” aka “MoHo”. Best bargain bin game ever, hm? You can get it online for less than $2. That was a tip.

There’s no Q/A on this forum? Um, how do you post signatures here? I thought there was a check box on other forums but not here…

Make it in forge?

You didn’t read in detail. I don’t think there are custom timers in forge.

But for everything else, there’s forge.

In reference to that, I believe when two people are in the hill it stops counting for each person. I have only played TKOTH though, not that FFA throwback crap.
