Hey Spartans today I am here to discuss the radar updates mentioned in the arena winter updates article, so I am wondering how will the radar be “updated”, will it’s range be extended from eighteen meters to thirty mayhaps, or will it’s range be decreased.

I wish they would change the H5G motion tracker to have a certain feature from the radar system in Halo 4. I liked it when each vehicle had its own unique icon on the radar. No idea why 343i changed it back to a standardized dot/circle in Halo 5.

I think there were also arrows pointing in the direction just outside of the radar for vehicles as well. They would also show up blue if no one was inside them yet.

Given the context of their words, I think the radar will undergo an “upgrade” to display more detailed info. It’ll probably show…
People who are sprinting, clambering, and using Spartan Charge - Vehicles in a much detailed form (not just a big dot) - Weapon pads, power-ups, and power weapons(?)If that wasn’t enough, I’d also like to have warning indicators of an enemy lock-on, enemy vehicles, environmental explosives, and incoming fire(?).

I don’t think the radius will be decreased… It sounded as if they like the sweet spot they found with 18m - they might increase by a little. The article did hint at Spartan abilities showing up differently on the radar though, which would be helpful. I’m thinking that Sprint will show up differently, than thruster, than Spartan charge, than ground pound, maybe even camo… who knows. It would be nicer to be able to distinguish if someone is sprinting up behind you or walking normally other than a faster moving dot. I imagine a faded ghost tail trailing the radar blip when an enemy is sprinting. Ground pound might show up as a loud ripple effect on a radar blip. I actually really like the up and down arrows on the radar that Bungie had to let you know if they were above or below the level you’re on. I can’t remember if that was Halo 3 or Reach though.
I think 343 looking at ways to advance the radar without giving away too much advantage is a great idea!

Those are interesting ideas I think that being able to see someone sprinting on radar would be, being able to identify vehicles as well is a great idea, I am unsure about everything else you have suggested however

I agree that it will still show people using their spartan abilities. I don’t think that they’ll change the vehicles however, the big dot has always worked fine for me, when I see it behind me I jump in the air, spin around and boost to the side/backwards. That’s usually kept me alive, however I think that it would be useful to show whether you’ve got a mongoose behind you, or a wraith. I’ve had too many moments when I’ve jumped in the air, boosted back and tried to get behind the vehicle to hijack it, only to find I’ve boosted back onto the big cannon on the scorpion, I die, and then my body gets run over by the mongoose I heard. I think that power weapons will be shown. I also think that there is a chance that we will see spartans even if they’re just moving, and not sprinting or firing.
