I’m a headshot specialist lol pistol is always my go to weapon Is it still as lethal?
Probably has the highest skill cap of a Halo pistol ever. I love it.
It felt pretty good.
Certainly not the beast that was H5.
Took a little bit of getting used to shooting faster and having to hit more shots.
But should still suit the headshot wizards.

The fun part about the new pistol that is being overlooked is the creativity. You can quick shoot the first 3, pace 2, and then quick 3 shot again.
Feels kind of like the pre nerf Gunfighter Magnum from Halo 5 if you’re into that.
The sidekick looks like a real satisfying pistol to use, not halo 5 OP, more tighter than the Halo Reach and 4 magnums, and wayyyy better than the garbage Halo 3 magnum
it’s pretty good, but the assault rifle is so strong I felt there’s few situations you should even use the pistol.
not like the Halo 5 pistol, feels more like the Halo 2 pistol, but its still very lethal. It’s so much fun to use as well.
It can’t perfect kill 2 enemies in one magazine. Other than that I had no complaints about it after the first flight.
Pretty terrible to be honest, the bloom ruins any potential it could have. Lottery cannon with a shallow magazine. The only redeeming quality is the minimum TTK which can’t be reached outside of very close range. Only the AR is just a more forgiving option which can still reach that quick TTK.
As it stands its only useful for quick cleanup which makes it pretty worthless in the Halo sandbox. If you want to play with “sidearms” go play CoD or BF. Remove the bloom entirely and you might actually have an interesting weapon.

Would it be better to have a deeper magazine (say two perfect kills)… or actually reduce it to force a reload between each engagement?

I’m not necessarily against bloom as a mechanic - as long as the weapon is accurate with the correct pacing.
I didn’t really notice the bloom on the sidekick. Though I am far from ‘pro’ level. Was it that bad?.. and at what ranges did it start to affect your accuracy?
I thought the consensus was that bloom in Infinite was minimal and reset fairly quickly… so only came into effect if you were spamming a short to mid range weapon at long distances.
I thought the sidekick felt really good in the tech test. Like others are saying, it by no means is an all-around gun like Halo 5’s magnum was. It’s definitely more suited to close range fights and does have a little bloom to it that reduces its effectiveness at medium-long ranges. That being said, I thought it was still an incredibly viable option even against ARs at close range. Yes the AR is more forgiving in those close range battles but if you land every shot with your pistol and you have a quick trigger finger you can definitely melt with the Sidekick up close.

In and of itself a shallow magazine isn’t a problem. Its the fact that it has a shallow magazine on top of its other traits IE short effective range with or without bloom. There is room in the sandbox for a close range oriented precision weapon that is more of a 1v1 type of weapon, all they have to do is remove whatever bloom and spread is on the sidekick and we would be good.
That being said, AR/Sidekick would still be unsuitable as starting weapons due to the lack of range and relatively shallow magazines. Halo demands a utility weapon off spawn and neither the AR or Sidekick can fill that role under the best of circumstances. Increasing the Sidekicks magazine size is pointless when we already have the BR to fill that role. Remove bloom from the sidekick and put in on the “racks” while the BR/AR is the default setup.

Pacing has never been a “skill,” bloom on precision weapons has never added anything of value and the element of luck it adds only makes things worse. The bloom is in fact pretty bad unless there is something else seriously wrong with the hit registration. At first I assumed it was my problem until I finally stopped and loaded it the level 1 testing grounds and watched as it failed to kill stationary close range targets.
A lot of people are still in the honeymoon phase and are not applying . The fact that bloom has been added even to the sniper has been largely ignored.
In terms of both bloom and starting weapons, Infinite is a significant step down from Halo 5.
It feels like it fires fast like the Halo 2 magnum. but does enough damage to the point that it’s actually useful. Lacks the scope the CE, Reach, 4 and 5 magnums have but has the generalized “zoom”, which I think is okay. The Sidekick is a reliable finisher or quick assist weapon. It is not the utility weapon the Halo 5 magnum was.
That said, I’d like to see the CE and 4/5/Reach magnum return, as I liked them and think they’d be great variants. Given that Halo Infinite has weapons labeled with their weapon model names, I think that we’ll be seeing a lot of weapon variants from across the games return.
Well I haven’t played Infinite yet, I watched a lot of gameplay and it seems like the sidekick is pretty much what does what it says -its a backup. Not the go to weapon of choice like Halo 5. I can scarce remember a time I swapped out my pistol for like say a needler in Halo 5.
I reckon its good this way since it encourages if no forces people to pick up weapons no the map, gives some variety not a pistol fest like Halo 5
I‘m not a fan, it’s one of my biggest concerns actually…
It‘s not the utility weapon it was back in H5 (or like the BR in H2/3). It felt rather lackluster really but I assume it‘s what 343 wanted: a sidearm that you will ditch the first chance you‘ll get.
Don‘t get me wrong, I like how it is a little harder to use die to how little aim asisst it has and it‘s optimal TTK seems decent in theory but I feel it‘s low damage per bullet and it’s small magazine will make it obsolete in PvP real quick. The AR has roughly the same effective range plus it‘s a lot easier to get kills with.
it felt pretty good, not been as powerful as the H5 magnum will increase the playability and variety of the weapons used in matches.
H5 feels like john wick, just magnums
I definitely enjoyed it and felt like it was a strong contender for the best side weapon, I would hesitate to swap the pistol over the AR for a different spawning weapon I e a BR… Mainly due to the pistol having long range tendencies with the smart link…

I’m not honestly sure what the answer is. Part of me thinks putting two more shots in the magazine would be good, but I’m sure tweaking a starting weapon has all sorts of balance implications that I’m not aware of.
I just think back to so many times in H5 HCS where someone pulled off a double perfect and how hype the plays were as they were happening. Losing that is just sorta disappointing you know?

I don’t know what has happened on the eSport scene lately but I have some serious doubts that competitive players are fine with the current starting weapons. I wouldn’t even be surprised if 343 tries to bank on nostalgia and aims for BR starts for ranked modes.
