The MoTD mentions Stasis being an asymmetrical map. How is that so? Sure, the side you spawn on determines whether Hydra to to your right or left, but that doesn’t make a map asymmetrical.
There are two kinds of symmetrical maps: ones like Fathom, where the BR spawn is always to the left of your base and SMG is to your right, no matter what team you are, and ones like Stasis and Coliseum, where the bases are the “same”, just mirrored.
So please, explain how Stasis is asymmetrical.
The bases are actually different. Red has more cover peices and a crows nest, while blue base has more open sight lines
Let me google the definition of… "A"symmetrical…
a·sym·met·ri·cal
ˌāsəˈmetrək(ə)l/
adjective
- having parts that fail to correspond to one another in shape, size, or arrangement; lacking symmetry."the church has an asymmetrical plan with an aisle only on one side"synonyms:lopsided, unsymmetrical, uneven, unbalanced, crooked, awry, askew, skew, misaligned;More
- having parts or aspects that are not equal or equivalent; unequal in some respect."the asymmetrical relationship between a landlord and a tenantAs you see, since Hydra and shotgun spawn on differnt sides, the map is not a mirror image, hence asymmetrical, unlike Fathom which is 100% symmetrical, aka, a mirror image

Thanks. I totally didn’t know that, what with making a thread about asymmetry and all that. You really helped me out.

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not, since you asked a question but then answered your own question later on in your own post… either troll, or not very bright

The only difference is the axis on which you mirror the map. You can take an overview of Coliseum, fold it in half, and it would match up. The only difference between the sides are the directions with which to orient yourself.

He didn’t answer his own question, he’s just mistaken about the layout of stasis.
There are two types of symmetry that would make sense for a map 1) rotational symmetry like fathom and 2) reflection, like colesium.
if you don’t look carefully, stasis appears to have rotational symmetry.
the hydra and shotgun spawns have NOTHING to do with why the map isn’t symmetrical. If that were the case, then Colesium, Truth, And Regret also wouldn’t be symmetrical. It’s all about the axis used as the line of symmetry. On stasis, If you sliced a line down the “50 yard line” intersecting the hydra and shotgun spawns, there are aspects of the map that would have rotational symmetry. That’s what confuses people.
Don’t be a jerk.
I don’t know why a map being symmetrical or not is all that relevant anyway. Every arena map should be designed to be balanced, in that both teams are on relatively even footing at the start of the game, whether it’s symmetrical or asymmetrical. You don’t need perfect symmetry for this to be the case. Maps don’t need perfect symmetry for modes like CTF to be doable either.
If memory serves Fathom is the only fully symmetrical Arena map anyway.

I don’t get the displeasure everyone else gets with remix maps. I quite like the idea.

The idea is cool… but the execution is something else entirely.
Remer Halo 2 & 3 when we actually had asymmetric maps? I wouldn’t mind seeing those types of maps return to Halo at some point, these symmetric even arena maps are starting to get boring to play
