I just had a strongholds match where I was at the bottom of my team’s leaderboard the whole match.
I had the fewest captures, lowest occupation time, and fewest kills. Yet, I was awarded the top 50% and MVP bonus. What?
Edit some additional thoughts:
Anyone else find it frustrating that the score is only shown on the in-game score board and not the post-match report.
Am I the only one that thinks it should be possible for a member of the losing team to get MVP? Maybe rare/hard to get, but at least possible.
Yeah, I don’t get what determines who is MVP either. A lot of the time when I get it, I know there’s at least one person who should have gotten it over me.
Honestly. K/D is the last thing I would want it based on.
Toxic stat.
Kills per minute is a much better representation of skill. You could probably even combine it with DPM to get a fancy K/D rate.
What I would love to see is some stats derived from Damage.
I would make the MVP the player who scored the most effective damage. That is damage that eventually lead to a kill. That encompasses kills and assists. You could even have a bonus for first and last damage in the kill.
If it’s a game of Strongholds I think MVP should be awarded to someone who performed the best on their winning team across the statistical categories of strongholds captured, time spent in strongholds, plus offensive and defensive kills regarding the taking or defending of a stronghold. If they wanted to weigh in some additional statistics I’d be okay with some form of KPM over DPM in relation to player expectations plus offensive and defensive damage in regards to the taking or defending of a stronghold.
K/D isn’t the end all stat of stats. That really only matters in Slayer. In objective games your mvp should be whoever spent the most time running the objective. I can’t tell you how many games of strongholds I played where my team won because I was running objectives instead of prioritizing kills. I would activate avoid the fight if it wasn’t necessary. And because I would do that we’d win even if nobody else was really trying to play the objective.
MVP should be based off the game type and what the objective is. It should go to whoever puts the most time and points on the board. To the person actually trying to win the match (whether they win or lose) instead of just running around like it’s just another Slayer game.
Subjective at best. You cant run objectives if the enemy is focused on you. Your team put enough pressure to keep the enemy off you, you should say thanks guys.
That said I know it works in plat lobbies and lower, mainly because the halo population has no idea how to play strongholds aka domination.
I tend to play a lot of SWAT and Fiesta and it seems to be purely on kills.
In a game of SWAT, I had 19 kills and 4 deaths and lost MVP to someone with 20 kills and 9 deaths. I had two more medals including a Running Riot. Neither of us had assists.
I believe MVP is awarded by circumstances of you making good plays or having a longer survival rating that most other players.
For example, I had a life in the game where I didn’t encounter any enemies for nearly thirty seconds on Bazaar because everyone went to constantly fight in one area of the map and I tried to cover the flanking route with the vents and basement area… only to find that when people died they just went into the fight and didn’t think to come and capture our flag through what by all means was an open window to just slip on by a flanking route that would’ve been unguarded had I not been patrolling that corner of the map waiting to see enemy foot traffic coming for my flag.
Lol. Everyone here is getting it wrong, but you’ve nailed it. MVP doesn’t stand for ‘most valuable player’ in Infinite. 343 went big-brain and made it ‘most valuable purchaser’.
Yeah, often I get it and feel like I stole it from someone else, other times I feel like the boxing meme where the one guy raises his fist in the air thinking he won but the judge raised the other guys fist. So confused.
It’s rare that I get it and think I should have. Usually only happens on a very unbalanced match where it feels like I was matched with 7 bots.
