This has probably been said 1000 times already, but I’m going to keep saying it until it happens. It was a no-brainer to include BOTH the Halo 2 ranking system AND the Halo 3 Spartan Ranks/Service record for your overall personal rank. How is it that even the SIMPLEST things are somehow too difficult to include in AAA game in 2021. Whoever the blame falls on for not having these features included need to lose their Bonuses/incentives.
Seriously, If this feature isn’t added in by May, I’m done with Halo for good and I’ve been playing this franchise since day one on the OG Xbox. I’ll spend my money on games that actually care about their franchise enough to implement beloved features.
Trend chasing, thats why. People migrating from any other franchise won’t recognise the 1-50 scale, but will immediately get some idea of the ranks when using bronze-onyx.
I couldn’t agree more. It’s dumb that you get like rank divisions and then have to rank up within that decision just to get a number next to your current rank (a certain number of times) then you get to the next rank and repeat.
I’d much rather prefer 1-50 with cool looking ranks and symbols in the later ranks like in halo 2.
Without the numbered ranks and a social progression system, the game is boring as hell
Exactly. IDK how 343i ( or at least the ones making decisions ) can call themselves “Halo Fans”, yet not implement features that are the Bread and Butter of the game.
The Funny thing is, Bungie created that system themselves, from scratch, yet 343i when handed an already existing system that is liked, looks cool, is fun and works well, somehow decides that their “version” is better.
I’m pretty sure they are using the Silver/Gold/etc Ranking system to appease “Noobs” and generally unskilled players by giving them “silver” instead of a low 10-15 rank.
game companies went from being hardcore gamers to being milktoast appeasers that have to bow to the throngs of casual gamers that fund their supposed “AAA” titles with purchases
Halo 2 and 3 had some of the best ranking systems ever made. and EVEN if they did have flaws, the internal way the ranking systems works could be ADJUSTED while maintaining the same visual style which is why players want that system.
Nobody is implying that the internal ranking system function has to be the same, we just want the VISUAL ASPECT of the ranking system to be 1-50 with the cool Forerunner and Eclipse style ranks at 40+
So top level players almost always get to 50 in a very short period of time, so not as high of a ceiling for pro/semi pro type players.
Bad players end up extremely low and idk about anybody else but I would imagine getting Gold is more rewarding than getting to like rank 10 or something.
What did you do for Halo 3? Reach? 4? 5? etc.
Why is this all of suddenly the most important thing about this game to you?
How would any improvements towards the ranking system address other (more impactful arguably) aspects of the game like Desync or cheaters and so on?
His name was/is Josh Menke. Pretty much just put the League of Legends system into Halo.
How many other games on the market have the ranking system that you are requesting? I think you are setting yourself up for failure here lol. Vast majority of games don’t even have ranking systems at all, and the ones that do are very similar to Infinite’s.
So, you do realize that 343i could just keep the internal workings of the ranking system the same, and just change the visuals to 1-50 instead of the current way it is ? rightttt ?
Halo 3 had a perfectly acceptable ranking system that was on par with Halo 2’s.
Didn’t play that much of Reach and I didn’t care about ranking in Halo 4/5. But given that Infinite was supposed to be a return of classic game feature I expected more, A lot more.
Saying that “other games” use a similar system sounds like What-about-ism to me. Are we saying Halo should just “be like other games” and follow the crowd ? And it’s funny, because out of all the features that Halo Infinite chose to borrow from other games, they choose the one that is the least exciting and compelling.
You probably shouldn’t be surprised that the company that tried to write Chief out of the story and insert their own half-baked super spartan would throw away something that works in favour of their own questionable system.
What would be the point of that? With Onyx there are way more than 50 ranks, you get to Onyx and can keep increasing your number to separate you from everyone else. When the ranks are slowly increasing by one there is far less of a sense of progression than a player who has fought hard to go from Gold to Platinum. It makes sense if you are sequentially rising from 1 through to 50 as they will have had a continued sense of progression from the start. That’s not the case with placement games though.
In Halo 3 you would be a 50 and that’s that. But there were actually level 70s because there were a hidden 20 ranks above the level 50. So many players were a 50 and we’re still leagues apart compared to good 50s, there was no way to reflect that. Now there is thanks to Onyx having your number rating. So would be even more confusing to players to be a 50 (1,847).
1-50 was fairly iconic but it is also reflective of a badly aged system so it makes sense not to use it unless they were using the same old and tired system.
it is a visually effective way to communicate rank that gives player more “sub-ranks” than the current number of ranks that exist, so you know in more detail what your skill level is compared to another player. The Current system doesn’t provide enough details about the other player’s rank/skill level compared to the 1-50 system.
I just love when people try and make excuses for poorly designed games and mediocre features. I gives off a “I only eat Chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese and drink soda” kind of vibe, while the rest of us expect an expertly crafted meal.
Having a boring ranking system is like going to Gordan Ramsey’s restaurant and being given a bowl of cereal for $50 and you’re the waiter serving the meal that makes excuses for it.
Nah, Locke was created specifically for 5. His first appearance in the series was that web series that linked Halo 4 and 5. He never showed up in the books before that.
Lets just ignore a decade of Halo and lets put Infinite on a higher plane of existent then the last 2 Halo games.
No I’m calling your bluff. You whining and saying you are going to quit to and I quote “spend money on games that actually care about their franchises enough to implement basic features” is a bunch of bull and even if you did leave it’ll have nothing to do with the ranking system.
No it didn’t. Did you even play both those games?
Let me look at your other quote and explain why its stupid if this is your standard.
Yes and they could’ve done that with Halo 3 too. So my point here is that if your standard was the visual (not the actual quality of the ranking system itself, which is more important) representation of skill or ELO in Halo was Halo 2 then by that logic all the other Halo’s are mediocre.
Edit: anyways this is all just a waste of time. This is not even worthwhile enough to be top 20 in my opinion in terms of what 343i should worry about. This is a fluff thread, not something that amounts to something more meaningful.
Edit #2: Infinite has much larger issues that actually matter. Most players don’t even play Ranked so this is kind of a thread that uses an extremely small aspect of a game, blows it way out of proportion, when really its a minor issue.
About Silver is where most bad players land in essentially ALL games. (Buddy was in Silver in League and SF5) For the entire time he played them. (He eventually moves up to gold, but with most games when there’s a new wave of newbies joining a specific amount of people from silver tend to jump up… Buddy was part of this group.
