How is desync STILL in the game!

This game launched in November. It’s nearly April. People have been complaining about desync since day 1.
Seriously this fix should have been done in the first week if not a day 1 patch. Genuinely what is going on with this games development?

I haven’t even been keeping up with Halo news or been playing the game but I know damn well it still isn’t fixed.

They won’t fix it because it’s an essential part of their netcode. If they would’ve any clue how to deal with it, they would’ve told us already…

I think they did address it… they basically said it’s our internet connection that’s the problem.

Considering the pro players said it was happening at HCS LAN and we all saw it with our own eyes that’s cap. It’s part of the games netcode.

I totally agree, I was just saying they’re blaming us instead of the obvious real problem.

I wonder if it could be made into a core gameplay element. Let’s say the context is that we’re fighting time travelers or people with time powers. How could you turn de-sync into a feature?

What if we could do de-sync on purpose and use it to look at the world from an angle different than we were at? “I can stand on this lava because I’m actually astral projecting and am really over there, but I can’t shoot anyone except from my real body.” or “I can’t shoot him around the wall, but I can shoot his past self from before he turns the corner!”

“I can survive this melee attack because I used my time gun to shoot his past self from before he struck me.”
“I can throw my grenade into the future so that it pops out of thin air later when the weapon spawns!”
“I can attack from behind cover if I throw this grenade so it gets chucked from where I was 5 seconds ago.”

Then they blamed players that use geo filter…which was clearly just another lie and a group of people to scapegoat for their own incompetence instead of taking responsibility for their terrible coding.

Correction, people have been complaining about desync since the flights long before release.

Truthfully I doubt it’s even fixable at this point. It seems more then just a networking issue. Especially when you get desync playing against bots in academy.

I’ve never used geo filtering but they absolutely must let players do it again.

Ever since they removed it I’ve been getting into games with over 120 ms ping and it’s genuinely unplayable because I’m almost always about 2 seconds behind the enemy team.

They NEED to do something about the atrocious connections.

I used to get 100% EU servers whilst using geo filter, then after the patch I was getting 86% but in the last few weeks that has decreased to 58%.

I don’t want to hear excuses or mistruth explanations, there is absolutely no reason why EU players should be getting placed on US servers…let alone on west coast Los Angeles servers which are over 5000 miles away at 153ms ping.

They told us the reason players were getting high ping lobbies or forced to play on servers thousands of miles away was because of “bad actors” like myself using geo filter and we all got accused of cheating by people that don’t even understand what a geo filter is, does or how it works…well, that has proved to be a complete lie from 343i. Where are those people now that accused of us cheating? I don’t hear or see them.

343i = bad actors.

I get placed 110 ping pretty often nowadyas but to be honest, these games run even better than the 30 ping games. I know it sounds crazy, but I often feel almost like 130% shoeld playing in US Servers. xD

Same goes for aim assist. There game where I get one perfect after another and oin other games the reticle is all over the place.

At this point I can’t even say when and why a game is trash anymore.

while desync is the major underlying issue this game’s AA gives me an aneurism and it’s the main reason i don’t play Inf., in h5’s MP I average about 53-60% accuracy in PVP, in firefight i can some times manage a 73-80%, however in Inf. i struggle to break a 43%.

Its like the thumb stick calibration they used was off, i have an elite series 2 so i messed around with it a little and found that setting the thumb stick tracking to true diagonals and the input curve to the middle of the delayed setting and made it feel somewhat like past halos

Answer -
Xbox One players, Xbox Series S/X players, and PCs that have non-uniform hardware setups are all trying to connect to servers with poor net-coding.

Desync doesn’t happen in the mcc, which has crossplay enabled and uses the same servers

I have a theory about desync, I believe a big problem is the all thoose 120-175hz players.

Its not strange that people find some games impossible to play, especially if you are on a 30-60hz Xbox One and face off against 120 hz players, or even PC players with 175hz screens.

If you have 30hz Xbox you will end up loosing all thoose 1 vs 1 battles if you face off players with 120hz+ monitors, it will actually feel like the player you are up against get better and faster shots, if he has a 1ms screen and 175hz its not strange at all that the match is going to feel unfair.

It’s quite obvious that they don’t know exactly what’s causing it. This is also indicated by them adding additional telemetry with the Mid-Season Update to gather further information. At this point we can just hope that something useful shows up in those logs.

As for Geo-Filtering - I never read it as causing desync but as causing even more players being put in high ping games than would have experienced it otherwise. High ping games cause their own issues but that’s not desync. Anyway - I also play an increased number of games at high ping during the last week or so. I’d guess that’s a further indication of the further decline in population in the EU.

That being said - they mentioned that if required they’d consider putting in connection preferences (low ping vs. low search times (like in H5)) or Region select (like in MCC). I consider the recent developments to be an indication of: yes, this is a required feature.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Even with my scug instinct pro I often have duels where I can’t shot 4 times although we started at the same moment or even a little earlier.

And it makes sense to me playing against guys with 120 frames MORE than me.

Not a clue how you could potentially fix this. If it was for one player like back in the Halo 2 multiplayer days on Xbox Live with a dedicated host that would be one thing, but when it’s the entire lobby… that’s another thing.

But MCC has quite a few variables. For example -

  • It contains games that were optimized for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Original.
  • It was a collection that, initially, was poorly optimized on the Xbox One and was hardly playable online until the updates of 2019 and onward fixed the game to allow players to actually have the consistent play online instead of 20 minute wait times to connect to another Xbox One player.
  • Once the updates occurred, MCC was able to be reliably ported to PC. And even then it still had issues until plenty of updates came around.
  • Before this PC connectibily, it was just Xbox One players connecting to one another.

Basically the MCC was designed for the Xbox One, and it was poorly optimized. Updates eventually made it playable online nearly six years after it launched. And then PC had a similar issue when they got the MCC : poor optimization that needed fixes to make it an enjoyable experience.

MCC is exactly like Infinite in the regard that the game had a terrible launch, and it took YEARS for the devs to finally make it work thanks to commissioned developer help from outside their company.

Yes you will see everthing earlier if you have a 120hz screen.
The desync is really bad now.
Some games it feels like you play with 30hz and some games you have that 120hz feeling.
