I’m a little bit confused about the ending of Halo 3, I’ve had it for years and it never occurred to me until now.
There’s no way Chief was out of range when the New Halo fired, and he didn’t make it through the portal, only half the frigate did, being the Arbiter’s half. Which would mean that when Halo went off, it would have destroyed all sentient life in range (25 light years if I remember correctly)…including Master Chief. Unless I’ve got it all wrong…which in any case I’d be glad to be corrected. It’s not that I want him dead…I just don’t know how he was supposed to survive the blast.
So now I’m a bit confused. Help?!
It’s been awhile since I beat it, but if i’m correct, the Halo ring wasn’t complete. They activated it but by activating it it would just destroy the ring and the ark.
The blast from the ring causes is what causes the ship to be split in half.
I could be wrong though.
The ring fired prematurely, and just before the final firing sequence, it as Cortana said, shook itself to pieces and did a number on the Ark.
As for the portal and all that stuff, that confused me greatly.
Pretty much what they said. Halo never fired. It was still freshly built and not yet ready for use, so instead of firing, it broke into pieces.
Actually, what I want to know is where the heck is the Forward Unto Dawn’s crew? I know they said they brought everyone back to Earth via the Covenant Separatists’ ships, but how did Johnson get the Dawn from the Ark to Halo? He piloted it himself? It’s a starship, not a Pelican.

The games tend to not make canon sense, it is what it is for the sake of not making it too complicated.
Actually that makes sense, the ring breaking into pieces. Although I’m pretty sure the ship made it halfway through the when the portal collapsed, and that’s why the Arbiter made it back and not Chief, them being on opposite sides of the frigate…either way that fact is irrelevant. What mattered to me was why Chief lived, and it seems that you all cleared that up for me.
Many thanks.
