I’m sure you all have seen the numerous threads spawning up discussing the new “ADS” (i.e Smart scope) system to be implemented in Halo 5.
I am personally Neutral on this issue. I Like it in that it provides a new and interesting cosmetic on the Zoom system. But i find it a little off in the Image it gives Halo.
Not that i personally find anything wrong with this new system. I’m just wondering what was gong though 343i’s head when they thought up of this.
As far as i’m concerned, Halo and other generic shooters had a decent rivalry, having their own “unique” aspects. In this time (and likely now as well) the LAST thing a Halo fan would want to see is something containing similarity to that of Halo’s competitors. Yet, we come now to Halo 5, with this new ADS-like system.
Like I said, i personally have nothing against it; i believe that it could be a unique twist on the aiming/zoom system, but i can’t say certainly as of yet, as i haven’t played it yet. But looking around, one can clearly find many people who object to this system, regardless of whether or not it “maintains the Halo standard”. 343i’s not ignorant, they should know what is defined as “truly Halo”, and as such, they’d know what diehard fans would object to, so why did 343i think of it a good idea to put a system in place that gives this misleading image, knowing that a large portion of the fanbase might see wrong with it before the game is even released? How is 343i expecting to respond to those who think the new system is something it’s not?
Clearly this idea is intended to draw audiences from other game crowds without sacrificing an integral core element of the formula of Halo, but is this idea really well-thought if a decently large (as demonstrated) portion of the community seems disgruntled by it?
Simply by looking at the forums, i can’t say that a majority of Halo players are saying bad about the new system so i am only speaking to what is see on the forums, but if representative proportions are being taken in, and the number of people who say that they’ve “quit Halo”, truthful or not, it can be assumed that a good number of people are losing their “hope” for Halo to continue as they wish it to be, and i am simply asking how 343i is planning to respond to this.
