How I would recommend reworking the shop system

Players are currently frustrated with the fact that the current shop system is quite . . . dull.
Especially given the fact that a lot of content will be vaulted for an unknown amount of time and then re-enter the shop. So if you were eyeing a bundle of items you have to play the longest waiting game for something like the HAZOP bundle to make its return in the item shop.

This problem is also amplified with the more Armor Cores and Events become prevalent, meaning that if you were eyeing something for the Mark V Bravo armor core; you will have quite a few weeks until you see something for that armor core in the shop as the rotation would likely go Mark VII content → Event content → Current Season’s Armor Core content → Vehicle cosmetics content → Fractures Event Content before finally providing some Mark V Bravo content . . . only for that content to be stuff you might already own.

The shop system will need to be reworked in order to mitigate consumer frustrations. The more appealing the shop, the more likely people will actually use it.

So the following steps are how I would rework the shop system.

ADJUSTMENT #1 - - DUAL-CURRENCY

You know what makes Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege’s shop-system work really well? A dual-currency system!
In Rainbow Six Siege, you can grind games to earn Renown, with victories producing more renown than losses. You can also buy boosters which double your Renown income.
You can also purchase R6 Credits through microtransactions to trade IRL money for cosmetics.

I propose that Halo Infinite should follow this setup by using the current credit system and merging it with the Tokens we were using in Halo MCC.
You win a few matches to gain exp?
___You get a Token
You complete a challenge?
___You get a Token
You complete the ultimate challenge?
___You get a few Tokens
You leveled up the battle pass to a certain tier that rewards tokens?
___Here are 5 Tokens
You purchased the second-largest shop credits microtransaction?
___You also receive 10 Tokens !!
You purchased the largest shop credits microtransaction?
___You are rewarded with a bonus 20 Tokens !!!

Similar to MCC’s Battle Pass and Exchange, you can spend Tokens to level up the battle pass by a tier or you can spend tokens to obtain an item. This also applies to Event Pass items, relieving some of the headache for players that have been complaining about the challenge progression system.

Some shop items will cost two or three tokens if they are single items. And if you want to get a bundle of items, you will have to spend ten or more Tokens. Thus if you purchase single items that are included in a bundle, you would be able to buy the remainder of the bundle at a slightly cheaper cost; seeing as you possess some items in the bundle already.

Just like with Rainbow Six Siege, you can spend credits or Tokens to obtain items in the shop, as well as bundles. And using an XP Booster will increase the amount of tokens you can earn for playing matches.

Perhaps players could grind to spend 30 or more Tokens on getting the Premium Battle Pass access, allowing players that refuse to spend money the ability to still obtain access to the Premium Pass; a feature which pretty much every other game that uses the Battlepass System allows for.

ADJUSTMENT #2 - - MULTI-TAB SHOP

Again, we are looking to Rainbow Six Siege for this. Ever notice how Siege allows you to buy certain items in separated tabs? Headgears, Uniforms, Weapon Skins, Weapon Charms, etc?

Well, why not separate the shop into the following tabs? -

  • Featured Tab
  • Mark VII Tab
  • Mark V Bravo Tab
  • Rakshasa Tab
  • Yoroi Tab
  • Eaglestrike Tab
  • Vehicle Tab
  • Weapons Tab
  • A.I. Tab
  • Spartan ID Tab
  • HCS Bundles Tab

Each Tab will be a collection of ALL obtainable items in the game, so you don’t have to wait forever for the bundle you are waiting for to enter the shop’s weekly rotation, you can just select the tab to find the items you are looking for and trade Credits or Tokens for the items; either singular or in a bundle.

The Featured Tab will now be items that rotate weekly and daily to be on a discount for the time being, allowing players to buy them slightly cheaper than usual. IE - A $12/18-Token bundle would now be $8/12-Tokens.
During Events, both Fractures and otherwise, the Featured Tab will be doubled in size as it will showcase items from the event.
The Featured Tab will also feature the usual of allowing players to

When it comes to Fractures Event Battle pass items, they will be able to be obtained while the event is live. Once the season ends, the items will be then made available in the respective Armor Core shop, so players that missed out on the event can either grind for Tokens or spend Credits to obtain the items that they missed out on. You didn’t complete the Fractures Tenrai event pass? Not to worry, you can still get the items by going to the Yoroi, Weapons, or Spartan ID tabs.

And of course, there is a shop tab that is exclusive for HCS Items.

With each season projected to add a new Standard Armor Core and a new Fractures Armor Core, the shop would of course add new tabs as the game progresses.

ADJUSTMENT #3 - - KITS ARE NO LONGER EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

How annoying is it that when you buy an HCS Kit for the Mark VII or for the Battle Rifle or Warthog, you get a kit that forces your weapon to become default cosmetics and just receive a new paintjob?

I propose that Kits like these are now bundles that will actually provide you with new skins, visors, and decals to apply to whatever items they were made for. Fans were frustrated when HCS bundles didn’t allow them to customize their Spartan while wearing their favorite E-Sports team colors. So why not apply an update to fix this issue and allow for more diverse customization, with Kits now being a bundle that provides you with the means to either cosplay named characters, your HCS teams, or mix-&-match the paintjobs and cosmetics as you see fit?

What do my fellow Spartans think?
Would you be satisfied with this sort of change to the shop system, allowing Grinders to Grind and Spenders to Spend?

Feedback anyone?
Perhaps a Vote?

  • Yes this shop would be better for us all
  • No, and here is why (please provide a reason in the comments below)

Some interesting ideas there.

I would also make the weekly challenge a discount token. Get ‘x’ percent off your next purchase in the store. That way you aren’t battling for a random ‘object’ - but instead something from the store you want.

And let us make up our own bundles. Have everything laid out and we can keep adding items (eg. helmet, coating, gloves, etc) for a cumulative discount as we go.

Titanfall 2 had a mode called the Coliseum. It was a 1v1 mode (Snipers only) were the first player to 3 kills (1 kill per round, best of 5) wins. The winner got a loot box. However the only why to enter was to have a coliseum ticket which could be found in loot boxes as well.

What made the system so good was that:

  1. It was totally optional. You could earn items just as fast by not participating in the coliseum. It was just an extra thing you could do.

  2. Item were EARNED. Sniping is very difficult in TF|2 and even harder with the Kraber (basically a Skewer). So winning a winning a 1v1 match like that left you with a sense of accomplishment. The loser doesn’t get anything, but that should just encourage them to try do better next time. Also tickets can’t be bought, so you don’t really lose anything for trying (except a few minutes).

  3. Players were very supportive of new players and good sports. They’d congratulate you if you won, ask for sniping tips if they lost (offer them if they won), offer to party up if they though you were pretty good. It was an awesome social experience.

I think Halo could learn something from this, but the cheating situation would have to be complete stamped out. Also the way to obtain tickets would have to be in a way that players don’t feel like they are getting robbed (i.e not bought and maybe not even performance-based). I think it would have to be totally random or maybe a login ticket every week.

Also since the reward was just a loot box with single item in it, winning didn’t mean getting your dream weapon skin, it just meant getting something. In general I’m not a fan of RNG boxes, but this might be the only situation where they are acceptable.

The way the store is set up just boggles my mind, there has been more than one occasion where I saw something cool in the shop and didn’t buy it because it was bundled with 6 other things I didn’t want. It’s weird that 343 could have easily gotten money from me and presumably many more people by offering items as piecemeal purchases. I know that they said they are looking at ways to offer bundled items as singles but why wasn’t that the case in the first place?

Because they copied Fortnite’s system?
$20 for a bundle set? Check
Shop cycles content weekly, with some daily items; often with the same items you already own? Check.
Free-To-Play Multiplayer with Full Price PvE story experience? Check.

If they implemented the adjustments you described I would feel a lot more reinvigorated to play the game. If the weekly reward sucks, I don’t feel all to compelled to play. It would be a nice hold over until more substantial content would be introduced.

I would literally pay money to make it so I don’t have to see bright pink samurais. Sorry to hijack the threat a bit but I can’t make my own because 343 apparently doesn’t like feedback?

To all of you playing bright pink or red white and blue samurais - completely cool with you doing it, just wish I could turn it off so my immersion isn’t so screwed
