People are discussing what will go down in Halo 6, and where it will take the story. I’m not sure where it will go aside from John and the other heroes defeating Cortana and the Created. I think since the species will be affected by all this, they will all unite against her, and afterwards create a sort of galactic UN. John and Blue Team head off to an unknown destination, we end their part of the game on a somber note. However, the very last scene I think would get me so pumped. In some unspecified area of the galaxy, a station with the species is keeping post when suddenly many ships come out of slipspace, which suddenly attack. It’s not the Banished or a splinter Covenant faction, but rather the Flood!! The Flood is able to take over the station and defensive ships, as it grows more and more. The ships then go into slipspace, heading for everyone in the galaxy. This would be so awesome IMO, as it would be an amazing ending, as well as beginning the final act of the story in the series. Yes, I believe we’re getting closer to the endgame of the franchise in terms of narrative. While the franchise won’t be ending anytime soon, I think the story is coming close to an end pretty soon, while we’ll be getting many more games for the inevitable future. I think Awakening the Nightmare was a tease for the return of the Flood. Even if it doesn’t return due to the Ark outbreak, I believe they used that to kinda go “Hey, you ready for the Flood to fully return?” I can’t wait for the Primordial and Flood to return and begin the end. I imagine the ending being somewhat like the final season of Game of Thrones season 7 here. What do you think?
Have you read the Forerunner Saga? If not I give it my highest recommendation. It provides backstory as well as currently relevant information on the Forerunners and Flood. The relevant aspect to this idea is that the Flood aren’t trying to consume the entire galaxy. Their endgame is much more complex than that. The Flood are fulfilling the Precursors plan for humanity to be nurtured until they’re ready to be given the Mantle of Responsibility.
The Flood faked Humanity’s solution to the Flood working to trick the Forerunners into sparing humanity from extermination.
The Flood voluntarily left the galaxy to allow the Forerunners the time and resources to design not one, but two Halo Arrays.
The Flood didn’t even bother to use Neural Physics until the last stage of the plan, when the pieces were all in place and it was time to force the Forerunners to fire the Halo Array.
And in modern Halo, the Flood aren’t using even a moderate fraction of the power they used against the Forerunners, even though they’ve lost none of the ability.
The Flood is playing the Villain but holding back, because it leads to the outcome the Precursors want.

I have read the Forerunner Saga, and it might be my favorite set of Halo fiction of all time. That’s true, the Flood is being used by the Primordial as a test for Humanity, if we are truly worthy of the Mantle. Can’t wait to see this thread return. Do you like the idea of the ending?

The part of Halo I like best is the lore. I prefer the introduction or removal of characters and factions to naturally grow out of the existing lore, rather than be re-introduced by popular demand. That said, I can’t picture why the Flood would go full consumption mode when it’s been crafting humanity from the shadows for over a hundred-thousand years.
I suspect the Flood may fight to keep other races away from something, or to teach a lesson, but I don’t expect a genocide. If the Flood were to be in a future FPS game, I’d like to see it be either set during the Forerunner/Flood War, or from an Unggoy’s perspective during the fall of High Charity.

Do you like the idea that the Flood coming back with the Primordial returning to finish the test is the final act of the series?

The Flood could be the final test, but Cortana could also be the test. I suspect that the final test is one of worth, not might. Whatever the final test is, I suspect passing it will require a significant sacrifice (in this case, it would most likely be the Infinity).

I think it’s possible that Cortana is part of the test, but I think the Flood is endgame .
Exactly, I think the test isn’t “Look how good we are at fighting!!” More of a test of how much are you willing to defend others. Like a parent protecting their children.
