Just stumbled upon this and damn… It gave me chills, it made me tear up.
I don’t feel the same about master chief in HI… -Yoink- man, the state of halo story is really depressing to me, like really really depressing, it’s making me depressed how bad halo 5 was and I honestly don’t know if infite will be able to recreate some of that epic grand feeling you got from just seeing master chief and cortana do their somehow -Yoinking!- epic dialogue together.
Life is short, and as much as I am hoping Halo and Master chief will somehow return to the epicness and satisfaction it brought. I don’t think I will get to ever experience that again. I feel like microsoft and 343 internal company politics is -Yoinking!- the franchise up beyond all reason.
Gamewise I am depressed and I don’t have a shred of hope for halo infinite.
One unfortunate thing about nostalgia is that it’s never an easy thing to match or capture, especially once it’s cemented in our heads. I look at the Elder Scrolls series as an example of personal nostalgia, because I loved Morrowind so much as a game. Looking back at it now, I still love it, but good god does it have a lot of issues. Trying to get the Elder Scrolls to go back to Morrowind-style gameplay is laughable.
Infinite is in a similar boat, here. They’re trying to push the series into a different direction after their (extremely) poorly-handled story in Halo 4 and 5, but trying to recapture every bit of nostalgia is not the way to go. There’s a reason the term “nostalgia goggles” is a thing, after all. They’re on the right track with the music, but trying to exactly emulate older gameplay won’t work.

I agree, I’m not even sure if the task of creating a new trilogy or game that matches the original trilogy is possible. It feels like there is a ton of issues with internal company politics tho which isn’t helping. Feels like they or nobody really knows what direction should be taken or anything… idk. Nostalgia sure has some evil demons attached to it, god It makes me realize I’m getting older and nothing can be done about it. Shiet.

Here is “Starry Night” remastered in 4k. Enjoy. My only hope for Halo at this point is in 30 years when the franchise is finally sold off and a new developer reboots the game.

jesus -Yoink- my -Yoink- 3 times that had my heart skip a beat. God i remember first time I saw this, i was on my way to the kitchen and walked by the television, dad was watching tv and this came on, something made me stop and watch to see what it was. only words to describe it is “holy -Yoink-”.
Part of what makes me nostalgic about the old Halo games was how well crafted they were, especially compared to other games at the time. It seems like a decade or so ago, people who made games were extremely passionate about what they were making, and you could feel it in the product and interviews given. Today it feels like people/companies ONLY want to make money, and use the slot machines dressed up as generic video games to achieving those goals.
Something else to keep in mind is Bungie released wildly successful and beloved games (with a minor discontentment), adding to the hype. 343i on the other hand has released games that were “okay” at best, typically of controversial quality, and abysmal at worst. Just look at their mentality of the franchise compared to the creators.
Halo 4 and Halo 5 depiction of Chief was very off putting and annoyed me.
Halo 4 reason:
In the regard that the Captain of the UNSC Infinity acted very rude towards Chief and Commander Sarah Palmer did not seem to show respect towards him either. She made some dumb joke about not being impressed about his height.
Halo 5 reason:
343 industries tried to trick people into thinking Chief had turned into a villain. And they made him look like the loser in that cinematic fight against Locke. It also appeared as if they were trying to replace Chief with Locke as Halo’s main protagonist for Halo 5 and future titles.
I can tell you know. If they ever kill off Chief or try to replace him. They will kill the Halo franchise for good.

The depiction of John in 4 was the best in the entire series and more closely resembled his book persona. You can critique 4’s story for its reliance on outside material or a villain that is underdeveloped however the interpersonal dynamics at play were excellent. The issue with 5 is not the idea that John can be made out to be a villain rather the good premise went nowhere and not enough time was spent from John’s point of view (that and the Cortana twist which derailed the entire series).
Personally I think the story seems interesting so far, but I am not sure it will even be possible to pull it back up after H5.
Evil Cortana was just a really bad idea, and while I love the ending of H4 it is strange to have a halo game without Cortana.
Also by now if they wanted to kill her off they should have done it in H4, best way to do it now is to somehow turn her back on chiefs side, so we once again have her in our helmet. But even that sounds a bit hard to pull off and a bit cheap.

actually I loved john in 4, tbh i think the story in h4 was very good. I disliked a couple of characters like the didact or whatever his name was, but the plot and conclusion was actually really good, emotional as hell. Halo 5 ruined all that, and in my mind I don’t see how I will ever be able to be satisfied with covenant based story like Infinite is headed into, and the reason is sorta the protagonist in H5 and the plot minimized everything. Sorta like how my problems here on earth don’t really matter when we’re only a tiny spec in the universe.
But I would love to be wrong and will definitely try to be open minded when more info comes in.
