How I think Custom Classes would work...

I think Custom Classes with Halo might actually be interesting, and the reason people resent this is because it was implemented in CoD first. 343 obviously aren’t going to make it too extreme, maybe being able to choose a kind of Rifle like gears (Lancer, Retro, Hammerburst)

For Example:

Weapon one choices: Assault Rifle, Plasma Rifle, Plasma Repeater.

Weapon two Choices: Magnum, Plasma Pistol, Needler.

That’s not too bad, is it? So long as it’s like Rock Paper Scissors, where each rifle has its own advantage and disadvantage.

I doubt 343 would upset you lot that much, and I personally think this would be a lot of fun.

Besides, if you don’t like this new Halo, they have vintage Halo playlists for you all, just blow off the dust and chuck coal into the engine and there you go! Halo 3 on a new disk!

I made a topic like this a long time ago. It was consumed by sprint threads. I’d be happy if custom classes just worked like this with maybe gametype specific classes and such.

That’s a shame, man. Too many people complaining about sprint… maybe BS Angel could make a Sprint thread to put ALL sprint-related threads into it, just to reduce the spam caused by this one topic…

No matter how you wrap it up, it still likely will be unbalanced.

R.I.P even start’s.

I hate comparing different games, but Gears of War 3 has VERY balanced starts. There’s not one weapon to rule them all. The Retro Lancer has damage and fire rate, but it’s inaccurate, the Hammerburst is very accurate and powerful, plus it has range, but it has a small clip and low fire rate and the normal Lancer’s in between.

It could work, please don’t jump to conclusions, man. Oh what am I saying, that’s all everyone does here…

I believe that Halo should have a gametype with the idea of loadout/class, but also keep some matchmaking like Halo.

Maybe so but this is Halo, no longer is this game unique.

I thinking a more advanced version of Reach’s classes, but still very basic with what you can have. But I could be wrong. I am excited for more info on the classes.

In fact, that’d be the worst case scenario. If every weapon has an advantage over all other weapons in a certain situation, the whole game would collapse into randomness. For example, we had two Assault Rifles of which other had higher damage output and other had higher rate of fire. In close quarters, the AR with higher rate of fire would dominate, but at range the AR with higher damage would dominate. Thus we have two people, who are both been confined to a combat of their own range. If they meet eachother at certain range, the other will have to leave the combat or be killed.

To be honest, I would rather have one weapon being clearly better than having to deal with random conditions where my chances of winning an encounter aren’t up to my own skills, but the opponent’s choices that I have no way to affect to.

If this is true, just like with Halo: Reach, a Halo 3-like feel will be desired by the majority of the players, and before you know it, all those “non-Halo” changes they implemented will dissipate from the playlists.

This is why I hope to God that the gametypes and maps can be manipulated to create a Halo 3 experience. All other features will become obsolete to players like me who have a strong desire to play a Halo 3-like game.

I’m going to put it simply, I’d much, much, much, much, much rather they just stick with the formula we have, it’s tried, it’s tested, and it works.

This new formula is quite simply a devolution, if they have a set of classic playlists I’ll just play them and stay away from this crap. It seems nobody is seeing how it can improve the franchise (because it won’t and can’t) and instead is looking for ways to try and make it do the least amount of damage.

It is impossible to have different weapons 100% balanced, one player is always going to have an advantage, however slight, over another before the game has started.

So, yes, I could live with what you’re suggesting. But what’s the point in adding it at all if it’s just crippling the gameplay? Change for the sake of change?

I think with the development of the DMR be involved in Halo 4, (I didn’t say comfirmed) load outs could be little more balanced and possible only a small concept. When I say small I mean each class isn’t hugely different.

We know we have a BR and DMR. Add a Needle Rifle and a Forerunner Rifle that posses similar qualities to these other 3, you have 4 potentially even classes.

  1. BR + AR
  2. DMR + AR
  3. NR + AR
  4. ?R + AR

It provides the concept of classes but due to the similarity of the weapons (whilst each holding their unique advantage in certain situations) it still maintains player choice.

I don’t want to get into ‘abilities’ yet as we know little to nothing about them but the same idea can be used again. Each ability is only slightly different than the other but still presents a minor advantage in it’s own situation.
