Well, “Love” may be too strong a word. I do still have my criticisms and there are so many things they can take away or add that I think will make it less frustrating.
But the B-word is not too strong for how I’ve been over Halo 5.
Full disclosure: I’m a Halo 4 fan. I know you diehards hate it, but you don’t realize that when Halo 4 is your first multiplayer experience with nothing to compare it to, there is nothing wrong with it.
Especially Big Team Battle, which was my thing. I think all of the gameplay mechanics that Halo fans hate worked great for that mode. (Smaller maps though…yeah it sucked).
But I’m not here to convince anyone to like Halo 4.
I mention it because I was getting very very very frustrated with just about all of Halo 5’s multiplayer modes.
At one point, i specifically decided to never play Warzone again.
Played BTB for a while. Was doing fine then I suddenly started sucking and couldn’t seem to get any better.
It was at this point that I went back to Warzone.
I started to realize that I couldn’t approach Halo 5 as Halo 4 I wanted another Halo 4 and that’ll never happen.
I don’t completely comprehend all of the issues with Game Balance that Halo fans insist Halo 4 ruined.
Please don’t bother explaining, I’ll never understand.
BUT, I do understand that the gameplay is inherently different and as a result, you can’t make the mistake of thinking Halo 5 is Halo 4 with better resolution and what not.
So I just started approaching Warzone with a different mentality and I started doing better.
One thing that helps is that I’m finally unlocking some helpful reqs that is making it a ton easier to put up a fight.
(Though I still get frustrated with getting the same Reqs all the time. Any suggestions on how to best unlock this stuff?)
So, my point for this post is two-fold: if you were like me and had problems with Halo 5, it’s probably because you are approaching it wrong. I kind of wish that the Halo fans would have had the same mentality towards Halo 4. Yes, it’s not classic Halo, approach it as such.
The other reason that I have made some forum posts that were pretty critical of Halo 5 including some gameplay elements that fans think of as sacred cows.
Just saying, if you see such posts, ignore them. I’m done whining for the time being and am enjoying myself.
(also want to add that I just had my best Warzone match ever. Now that I’m all pumped up…Xbox is having connection issues)
I think I’m in the exact same boat. I was so longing for stasis that at first I even set my controller configuration to the Halo 4 scheme. But once I realized how much I was losing out on without quick access to smart-link or the charge button, I finally decided to suck it up and find out where 343 moved my cheese. I’m starting to like this new cheese location. It’s interesting.
If Warzone is part of Halo 6, though, I do hope they’ll find a way to randomize the boss spawns. I think it would increase the replay value over the long run if people aren’t able to memorize where and when each high-value boss is going to appear.

Yes, and like I said I do have a lot of criticisms of Warzone. It could be insanely awesome if it just changed certain things.

Light blue silver color, tanky as heck (buffed health on that monster), and explosive rounds without cool down. That ghost is a nightmare. Though, high jacking one is such a satisfying feeling.
I played Warzone a few times. I was overwhelmed and inadequately armed due to the lack of loadouts.
I moved away from Warzone and played only Arena matches. Somewhere around my level 60, the daily Req bonuses were released. I made sure to get one win on a Warzone map everyday to ensure I got the free Reqs. Due to my higher levels, better Reqs and more dominant loadouts, I started to enjoy Warzone.
My suggestion is to wait until you are a higher level to enjoy Warzone. This is a glaring problem with Warzone and the Req system. If you are not dedicated to playing Halo 5, you might not ever enjoy Warzone because you will often be out-Req’d by those that play enough to unlock the Reqs.

I read some good advice for newbies after my initial frustration: keep your head down and defend bases. When you first start playing, you’re outgunned by all the people who’ve been playing since launch. Once you get the hang of the new play and build up your own REQ collection, you’ll be able to jump in and wreak havoc, and it’ll be a lot more fun to play.
