I hated the controls of Halo Wars 2 beta. I was looking forward to this game and control disinterested me. Was Halo Wars control like this? Or completely different? I have not played Halo Wars.
Pretty similar. For example in halo wars 1 the local units was the same button as all units, but for all units you held the button down.
Yeah the controls for it are the same as in Halo Wars. You’ll be able to change it in the full version.
The controls are similar to the first one. I felt like the changes on the left hand side of of the controller hurt the gameplay.
The controls are similar for sure but just feel alot better in Halo Wars 1. Mainly for selecting all / local units and the D-pad.
But alot comes down to personal opinion

I think the general consensus agrees that the Local/All Units should have remained separate buttons.

Actually the beta combined local units and all units into the RB button. Halo wars 1 was LB for all units and RB for local units. I own a elite controller so I remapped the LB (map scroll in hw2 beta) with LT (power commands) . After swapping it felt more like the original game .
They are pretty similar however they are changing the controls for the release, they will still be somewhat from the beta so you aren’t to confused, but will there be control scheme changes options other than that one, I don’t know.
It would seem sensible for them to add an option to customise control options so that people can just choose their preferences and everyone will be happy.

I prefer Bungie’s UNSC and prefer 343’s Covenant.

maybe you should play it and give the beta a lil break it is a BETA
