How Halo Wars 2 can increase its Replay Value.

Once you beat the campaign, get all achievements and reach Rank 50. There is NOTHING for you to do… The game just sits there waiting to be played. Here’s my solution:

  • Bring back Monthly Challenges - Bring back Commendations - Bring a Re-Up/ Prestige Mode system into HW2 - Bring in Factions (More on this later) - Create a Par Time/ Par Score Leader board for the Campaign and Firefight - Add more game modes - Reinforcements, Tug of War etc.
    EDIT: ADDING MORE INFO ON MY POINTS - STAY TUNED!!!
    3RD POST IS MY COMMENDATION LIST - CHECK IT OUT!!!

Factions are the HW2 equivalent of Spartan Companies - Up to 50 people can join
With these come Faction Commendations like Play 1000 GAMES in a month- these are commendations that all members will have to complete.

COMMENDATION LIST:

  • Play matches as Atriox - 5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Shipmaster - 5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Decimus - 5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Colony - 5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Kinsano - 5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Forge - 5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Cutter- 5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Isabel -5 Levels – 585 - Play matches as Anders -5 Levels – 585 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Atriox – 5 Levels – 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Shipmaster – 5 Levels - 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Decimus – 5 Levels - 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Colony – 5 Levels - 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Kinsano – 5 Levels - 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Forge – 5 Levels - 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Cutter – 5 Levels - 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Isabel – 5 Levels - 8750 - Leader Powers Used/ Earned as Anders – 5 Levels – 8750 - Hero Unit Kills as Atriox – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Shipmaster – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Decimus – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Colony – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Kinsano – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Forge – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Cutter – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Isabel – 5 Levels – 4200 - Hero Unit Kills as Anders – 5 Levels – 4200 - Deathmatch Games as Atriox – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Shipmaster – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Decimus – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Colony – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Kinsano – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Forge – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Cutter – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Isabel – 5 Levels – 5000 - Deathmatch Games as Anders – 5 Levels – 5000 - Domination Games as Atriox – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Shipmaster – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Decimus – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Colony – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Kinsano – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Forge – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Cutter – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Isabel – 5 Levels – 3650 - Domination Games as Anders – 5 Levels – 3650 - Rumble Games as Atriox – 5 Levels – 2750 - Rumble Games as Shipmaster – 5 Levels - 2750 - Rumble Games as Decimus – 5 Levels - 2750 - Rumble Games as Colony – 5 Levels - 2750 - Rumble Games as Kinsano – 5 Levels - 2750 - Rumble Games as Forge – 5 Levels - 2750 - Rumble Games as Cutter – 5 Levels - 2750 - Rumble Games as Isabel – 5 Levels - 2750 - Rumble Games as Anders – 5 Levels – 2750 - Blitz Games as Atriox – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Shipmaster – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Decimus – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Colony – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Kinsano – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Forge – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Cutter – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Isabel – 5 Levels – 1650 - Blitz Games as Anders – 5 Levels – 1650 - Deathmatch Games as Banished Leaders – 10,000 - Deathmatch Games as UNSC Leaders – 10,000 - Domination Games as Banished Leaders – 7,300 - Domination Games as UNSC Leaders – 7,300 - Rumble Games as Banished Leaders – 5,500 - Rumble Games as UNSC Leader – 5,500 - Blitz Games as Banished Leader – 7,000 - Blitz Games as UNSC Leader – 7,000

Note : Number on Right equals TOTAL amount of games/ kills/ Leader points needed to earn the Commendation
Note: Figure in the middle is the amount of levels needed to earn the commendation, however not all levels are the same
Eg. Play matches as Atriox
Lvl.1 = 15 games
Lvl.2= 30 games
Lvl.3 = 60 games
Lvl.4 = 120 games
Lvl.5 = 360 games
Therefore the Total Count is 585 games to complete the commendation

I’m proposing a Prestige System where you can continuously reset your rank to 50 up until 10 (or so) times - getting access to hidden Monthly Challenges (eg. Win 50 games) and Commendations (eg. Play as Atriox 15 times - however they go up until Level 5 where its more like: Play as Atriox 585 times).

And this may be controversial but, every reset you do you can get a special leader power for a leader of your choice (Limited to only 1 special Leader Power per leader).

The replay value for a lot of people is in competitive online play. I am quite enjoying it this way.

The game doesn’t have the population to support more game modes so I can’t get behind that. Maybe a monthly rotating fun game mode could be implemented though.

If by more factions you mean diffterent races all together then that would be awesome but that would require a major DLC. I really hope this game grows enough so that this is possible but right now this seems like a long shot. Fingers Crossed though.

I don’t want a prestige system in this game because I feel that it would lead to people dodging me more (I have played a lot). I know I am in the minority on this one though.

Everything else sounds like they would be welcome additions to HW2.

Although I’m not against these additions, I think the game has high replay value because of playing ranked.

I don’t want a prestige system. Just make a ranking system that goes higher/takes longer to max out. And that’s it. All an XP rank system needs to do is indicate how much time someone has put in to playing. Prestige negates that as people can sit at a max rank instead of prestige-ing.

Also, in CoD the premise of the prestige is a trade-off. Unlocks are wiped for a new prestige rank. What could you trade-off in HW2? Blitz cards? I don’t even play Blitz.

No, trading off nothing. That would limit the experience in HW2.

I don’t think anyone even played all the bogus gametypes in the first game aside for getting the achievements.

Even then, it would add gametypes for people to play.

So then what would be the point in prestiging if there is no trade-off?

That was the dilemma in CoD.

Do I prestige for a new emblem, but lose all of my unlocked weapons, attachments, and perks, or stay put with my current unlocks, but not get a new emblem?

Without the trade-off, it’s 100% pointless. It should just take longer to achieve max rank and there should be more ranks. No prestige nonsense.

I was actually thinking about trading off all leaders except for Cutter and Atriox.
Then as you progress you unlock Forge, Shipmaster, Decimus etc.

Again, No!

Leaders shouldn’t be locked behind ranks in an RTS. Nothing providing any advantage should be locked by any measure in an RTS.

What would you suggest then?, and by that accord you shouldn’t be able to trade off Blitz packs.

Blitz mode itself is a pretty bad rule breaker. Simply buying more packs gives more advantage. Don’t look to it as a shining example of RTS balance. That suggestion as a trade-off was rhetorical. HW2 is an RTS; there shouldn’t be anything to trade-off.

I’ve made my suggestion already. Require more time to reach the max rank and increase the total number of ranks. More ranks allows for the player to feel like they are always making progress, and not feel like they are stuck in a rank as each rank progressively requires more XP to achieve. Making it take longer to reach max ranks allows for a better idea of how long a player has put into the game based on their XP rank, giving a rough indicator of their understanding of the game’s fundamentals.

Agreed. But how can 343 do that now with so many players quitting after 50?

What players are quitting after 50? Most players I know could care less about their rank. For me it’s all about the placement in multiplayer.

Well, I know a few people that just exploited the XP system and left after 50 to be some of the first to get it. And if you care about Multiplayer that’s fine I don’t care, may you get high rank, however this forum is about increasing the game’s playability, so that way when people do everything in the game they have something on the side to complete - the commendation list.

All an XP rank system needs to do is indicate how much time someone has put in to playing. Prestige negates that as people can sit at a max rank instead of prestige-ing.

Well, I have played with players who purely don’t care about their rank, and just want to reach max rank. I can’t just magically remember this one players’ GT who quit after 50 and uninstalled the game within the first day. Besides, this quitting problem can be solved if 343 implement some of the things I’ve mentioned - commendations, extra ranks etc.
