Hello everyone! I was talking about Halo recently, and my Tattoos of Halo (also in another forum) and a fellow HaloWaypoint Spartan asked me how Halo saved my life. I thought i’d Share on here so maybe it could help someone else. Thanks and have a great day.
All during highschool I was bullied a crap ton, we were poor, I was super skinny and nerdy looking etc. Anyway after getting bullied and picked on/ physically beat down for 4 years all throughout high school, through 2 different high schools, I was being told I was worthless, a waste of life, I should just kill myself. So I started to believe it. So I picked a day to end it all. I didn’t tell anyone, it honestly wasn’t a cry for help, it was a legitimate. I picked November 25th (was the day after my birthday) and 2 nights before that night I got invited over to someones house to play videogames. They really invited me over to pick on me and beat me up, but I had it done so many times it was normal to me. they were playing Halo and at the time I had never played it before, But I picked up the controller and dominated those people that picked on me. and for once in my life I felt like I was adaquet, for once I felt I was equal. I had fun for the first time in years. After playing Halo I realized I could be good at something and I could have fun again. My life changed forever after that. I know looking back now I was silly to think that, or allow myself to be an easy target or not search for help, but hindsight is 20-20. If any of you are feeling down please reach out send me a PM and I will do my best to help you.
Hey, good to hear you got off that path and onto a better more…Halo-y path.
That’s awesome! Yeah Halo has helped me alot with my social awkwardness and ability to make friends. Which Halo did you play that time? Do you remember?
First I’d like to say that I appreciate you sharing your story. I know it can be difficult to talk about about mental health issues including suicidal ideation. I expect the community to respond to that with sincerity and positivity (and I’ll be keeping an eye on the thread just to be sure.) I do want to remind everyone that suicide is a serious issue and to encourage anyone thinking of suicide to seek professional help. I’m going to post the number for the national suicide lifeline for those in the US. That is 1-800-273-8255 They also offer online chat as an option. There are also other resources such as the trevor project (a crisis and suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ youth) 1-866-488-7386 which also has chat and text options. If you’re having suicidal thoughts and these resources aren’t right for your it’s important that you speak to someone you’re worth the effort.

That’s awesome brother! The Halo was the OG Halo CE, back in 2001!
I’m glad you got through that difficult time. Something I have noticed as I have grown up is that the people who bully others tend to accomplish very little after high school. To anyone currently struggling, remember that this is temporary. Once you get through this difficult time, life is so much better.

Agreed!
Thank you for sharing your story. I know that’s not an easy thing to talk about, with anyone. I’m happy to hear that Halo helped you step off the ledge and helped you out in the long run. This place, the Halo Waypoint Forums, is a great place to be as well. We’re all one big family who loves Halo. It’s good to have you here with us.

Thanks for pointing out the online chat options nice to know I have an additional support. I have been having a hard time lately due to stopping my alcohol intake recently.
People ask me why I love halo so much all the time and it’s simple. It changed/saved my life. I’m glad something got to you and changed your mind, because I know how hard it is. Best of luck in the future!
Btw what are your Halo tattoos?

Those are pretty awesome! I’m going to get the mark of shame on my arm and get “Halo” written on my wrist in covenant writing.
