So by now majority of Halo fans have had the chance to play Halo CEA multiplayer. If you are familiar with the original Halo CE you know that the multiplayer was a big deal when Halo first started. So here is how I feel 343i should of done the Halo CEA multiplayer.
Scrap the Halo Reach weapons and bring all the original HALO CE weapons into matchmaking. Scrap the Halo Reach weapon coding and bring back the original HALO CE weapon coding. For example:
-Halo Magnum. I don’t want rapid fire on a magnum. I want that original feel that is even in the CEA campaign. (Pretty much use the Reach engine for online gameplay but scrap everything else and replace it with Halo CE coding, etc.)
I understand they are using the Halo Reach engine so there can be a multiplayer aspect online, but seriously they could have changed the weapon coding. Also on High Noon/Hang em high there are two shotguns that spawns right next to each other…? why?. The spawning time for power weapons is 90 seconds, which is to short.
Halo CEA only satisfied me through campaign, but multiplayer is garbage. Its just Reach with new maps…it should be Reach platform with all the old Halo CE feel, guns, etc. If anything it should be like that in ‘Anniversary Classic’.
This is all my opinion of course, but feel free to share your own thoughts.
P.S. I am very worried for what Halo 4 will turn out to be…
Dont be complaining dude its a good game, if anything they shud have just brought the old maps, and put them in anniversary classic with their old visuals. Otherwise the MM is fine to me. and im not worried im excited for Halo 4
so what you’re saying is…you wanted 343 to spend more money on something they already have? I understand it isn’t what some people wanted, but oh well.
Take the game as is and enjoy it.
if you don’t like it, well…that sucks.

So, they just have to keep everything but change everything? Get over it, multiplayer wasn’t a big deal at launch, the players made it a big deal afterwards. I can understand people wanting to relive the old days, but it’s not going to happen.

I enjoyed the multiplayer at first, but as I played it I started to feel like it was just Reach with new maps. Now maybe we wont get the old days of gameplay back, but they could have made it very possible. And for those of you who say they would spend more money your wrong. Messing with coding doesn’t cost a thing except time and they could have been working on this game for years, so they had plenty of time to mess around with it if they wanted to.
I just think it would have been more of a tradition for Halo CE to keep to the original coding when they decided to bring the online gameplay into the mix with Halo CEA. But again this is my opinion and you shared yours. Thank you

I don’t know if you noticed or not…
BUT IT IS REACH, The multiplayer was made for reach because 343 didn’t want to make completely new servers JUST for the anniversary maps.

Lol I know it is on Reach. You don’t have to have two different servers. You keep the Reach server but in the game scripting you change some things. Its simple as that. That’s all I am trying to say is they could have changed some of the coding on the Reach server for the HALO CEA multiplayer to make it feel like Halo CE all over again.

That and it’s too early in Reach’s life to add another MP game to the Halo games.
I say, enjoy the game, and be happy that they released it as is, they could of just did nothing. If you don’t like the game, and you got Halo CEA for the MP, then sucks to be you, I got Halo CEA for the reliving the campaign in new graphics joy, not for the MP.
If you really want MP for Halo CEA, either go pull out a old Halo CE disc out and play some LAN with some friends, or go get Halo PC and play it that way. Other than that, the game has been shipped, released, and in the hands of a lot of people, and 343i is busy working on Halo 4. I much rather 343i and their teams be working hard on Halo 4, than them spending time on remaking Halo CE’s MP.
time is money in the business world, its not like the people who worked on the game did it for free. plus 343i is now overseeing everything Reach, so im sure they dont want to suck up to much resources on trying to run two muti-player games at one time.
i cant say for sure but im guessing recoding a bunch of stuff for one playlist would be kind of a hassle.

you would need two completely different servers to run the game then.
One for original reach settings and one for CEA settings.
they would have shift, move, and alter code that was completely perfect (in a manner of speaking) just to satisfy your nostalgia.
Also, if you alter coding from a server, it would have to match everything else, if not, it would cause a severe issue with running both the altered CEA coding and the Reach coding.

Agreed, Im thankful for CEA and just want Halo 4 to be perfect! Keep workin 343 !!

Yep know how you feel since had mostly hate for Reach so Halo 4 does concern me.
I thank you guys for reading my post and leaving your own opinions. But one thing I am tired of seeing is you all saying the same thing about “if you don’t like how CEA was launched oh well deal with it”. If I liked how it was at launch would I have made this post…? no lol.
I am just saying what I felt would have been right for the release of Halo CEA. If you don’t agree with me that is fine, your free to feel however you want towards the game and my opinion. But I would really like to hear how YOU would have wanted Halo CEA multiplayer to be in YOUR eyes. Not bash on me the whole time lol.
I bought the Halo CEA disc so I could relive the campaign and I thought it would be cool to have the same guns, look and feel in multiplayer as you do in campaign, but oh well.
Don’t think CEA/Anniversary Map Pack will have any effect on Halo 4’s multiplayer. Im pretty sure 343 used Reach because of time constraints and a lower amount of focus on the game (Most of the focus would have been on Halo 4). Halo 4 has a lot less limits and constraints. Trust me, 343i is gonna think up something classic, yet new for Halo 4. Keep faith. Halo is in good hands, 343 knows what they’re doing.
You’re right, OP. They used Reach’s network engine and CE’s game engine for CEA’s co-op, so why they couldn’t do the same for the multiplayer component I don’t know. Sure it probably would’ve taken longer, but I would’ve gladly waited if the finished product benefited. And benefited it would have!
And that whole argument about splitting up Reach’s population is a load of croc! The CEA playlists are already drawing from Reach’s population and splitting the community between the “classic” gametypes and the Reach ones. It’s no different than if 343 made a proper multiplayer component for CEA. Well, except that it’d be a -Yoinking!- whole lot better.
I believe its something to do with the basic coding of Halo 1. It was not meant for multiplayer over live so there would have been problems. Just look at coop over live in campaign with two people. There are already problems such as lag and black screens. Now imagine it with 8 or more people. I agree that making it as close to Halo CE would have been great, but the multiplayer experience probably would have been absolutely terrible compared to just using reachs engine.
When they said that they were bringing the old Pistol back to use in multiplayer, I actually thought they meant it. But what’s done is done. 343i did not want to separate the community, so a direct remake of Halo 1’s multiplayer was also out of the question. I’m not really that bothered though, when bloom is turned off the game feels more like Halo 2, which was my favourite online game of all time before original Xbox support was taken down.
Dude, I think you’re severely underestimating the complexity of coding. The coding from Halo CE is ten years old. You can’t simply take parts of those codes and patch them into a completely different game. Code isn’t backwards compatible. If they were to try and do that, it would be incredibly expensive and time consuming, rendering the idea of making a cost effective, 40 dollar game completely moot. Making a completely new server and multiplayer for 7 rehashed maps could never have happened. I am legitimately surprised at the childishness on these forums about things so obviously impossible.
Get your head together. They couldn’t make a different multiplayer for this. It would be rushed, glitchy, and would sever the fanbase of the Halo franchise into two dying factions, with both new multiplayer experiences dying off slowly.
