So i had a shower thought yesterday that developed into something big. We all know how popular firefight was in ODST and Reach, but how can it work in Halo 5?
I’ve thought of a way.
Structure: it’ll be the same structure as ODST, 5 waves make up a round, 3 rounds is a set. Applying the new abilities in Halo 5 will make firefight more challenging and fun. Maps can be tailored to classic firefight and maps that can be tailored to the new abilities in Halo 5.
Modes
Classic: The classic ODST firefight. Thrusters, grappling, assassinations, etc are turned off. Classic maps return for firefight (infinite to a specific number of sets). - Halo 5 Firefight: All of the abilities in Halo 5 are turned on. Classic maps and Halo 5 tailored maps are available to play (infinite to a specific number of sets) - Warzone Firefight: All of the abilities in Halo 5 are turned on. Req packs are available for use. Halo 5 tailored maps are available to play (infinite to a specific number of sets). - Story Firefight: Fight through rounds of enemies and complete objectives to face a major boss at the end. All of the abilities in Halo 5 are turned on. Halo 5 tailored maps are available to play (specific number of sets) - Legend Firefight: Fight waves of bosses and loot their bodies for weapons. All abilities in Halo 5 are turned on. Halo 5 and Classic maps are available. (restriction: can only pick up weapons that bosses drop. Starting loadout is a Battle Rifle, 2 Frag Grenades, 2 Plasma Grenades, and a random UNSC weapon)Skulls
Classic skulls will return. (blackeye, iwbyd, catch, etc) in addition to new skulls tailored to Halo 5 - Gravity: players move slower and can’t slide - Malfunction: thruster packs do not work and partss of the HUD randomly disappear at the start of each wave (different for each player ex: p1 will lose radar while p2 will lose health bar) - Butter fingers: grappeling does not work - Promethean (hidden skull): this skull will activate in the middle of a wave. Current enemies will disappear and will be replaced with prometheans - Sniper: only head shot will kill enemies - Flood (hidden skull): this skull drops at random. at the end of each round the map will become continuously hazy. when the final round hits (either the final round in the match or a specific round depending on the gametype) the enemy will be converted to flood - Ninja: enemies can only be killed by assassination - Alert: enemies are extra alert, easily spotting active camouflage - Helljumpers (hidden skull): drop pods will randomly drop in a wave, either carrying weapons, armor abilities, or ODST’s - Jigsaw: at the beginning of each wave, a random structure appears in the middle of the map. at the end of the round the structure reveals a Promethean enemy you have to fight - Asset protection: defend a UNSC asset until the end of the round (this asset can be guided to do certain things. ex: hide, follow, mount turret, etc)Objectives (Halo 5 Story Firefight only)
Hunt: kill a certain target in a given time frame - Shut Down: stop covenant bombs from activating - Infection (flood rounds only): fight back the infection - Portals: stop Promethean portals from spawning new enemiesWhat do you guy’s think? how can firefight work in Halo 5?

This reminds me of the Grub holes from Gears of War. I like that idea.
You’re more ambitious than I am, OP; I just thought they should take warzone, place restrictions on total player count, place more enemies in it, give you a limited number of lives, and call it a day.

It’s just some ideas that i came up with. i don’t expect anything to happen, but if we show 343i that we want this then something might come out of it
OP should also check out the PVE Warzone thread. Another idea I am very interested in seeing happen. I think a mix of the two threads will probably be something that devs can do (doubt 24 v AI would work)
yeah firefight needs to make a return. i like the casual gameplay with waves of enemies. I really loved it in odst in and halo 5 they could make it 1000x’s better =]

I’ll be pouting until I get my damn Firefight haha.

I’ll accept any kind of Firefight, as long as the game gets PvE mode. That’s where I spent practically all my time on Halo:Reach. I just don’t know if it’ll work in Halo 5 since it doesn’t seem to have the same enemy variety. Reach had tons of elite variants (6+?), brute variants (4-5?), grunt variants, drones, jackals, hunters, skirmishers.
From what I’ve seen of Halo 5, there are Promethean Soldiers, Knights, Crawlers, Grunts, Elites, Jackals, Hunters. Still 7 enemy types on each, but Halo 5 doesn’t seem to have the same variety of Elite ranks to spice up Firefight. I could be proven wrong come launch day, though.
Will continue to beg for Firefight regardless, I need PvE to sustain my attention for a long time.
Bump. I’ve been campaigning for firefight in halo 5 for a while now. It blows my mind to think that they would leave it out. I have very fond memories playing with my family over xbox live, spending hours trying to get through wave after wave. They want people to play halo 5 longer than they stuck with halo 4? Why not bring back the mode that provides endless replayability… Whoever makes the decisions to leave things like this out is just an insane person. Bit strong but that’s how I feel!
