How fast exactly is sprint in Halo Infinite?

Sorry for making yet another topic about sprint in Halo, but here I don’t want to talk about it being good or bad, but how it was implemented in Halo Infinite.

Judging by the gameplay trailer sprint is barely faster than base movement, if at all. I wonder if anyone actually analyzed the footage and figured out how much faster sprint is, compared with base movement speed.

  • Could it be just slow enough to not make a huge impact on multiplayer map design? - Maybe it’s upgradable through campaign and the sprint speed in multiplayer will be higher? - Or maybe it’s there only to enable some actions, like slide and some form of “Spartan Charge” armor ability?

Sprint appears to be only slightly faster than base movement speed. Here’s to hoping it won’t be in the multiplayer.

It’s hard to tell exactly how fast sprint is since in the campaign demo it’s really only used for a long stretch maybe twice. It doesn’t look too much faster than normal movement though and to my eye looks slower than Halo 5 sprint. It does appear to be a mechanism just to activate stuff like sliding which is how it was mostly used in the demo. I don’t think that sprint will be drastically different between campaign and multiplayer though.

It likely is, look at the screenshots from the update last month on the multiplayer map. The Spartans are sprinting.

Yeah, disappointing we didn’t get a better look at it in the demo. Hopefully they will reveal more soon.

I can see them toning sprint down a little. But it would still be a useful mechanic to change up the pace of the game. The last thing I want is to go back to the ‘good’ old days of total and utter map control. It can act as a gateway to pulling of other moves such as slide (very important to keep). And they can also incorporate some jumps that can only be done if you have a clear run at it.

I can see thrusters being sacrificed here as the combination of sprint / jump / thrust does make controlling movement around the map difficult to design around. Although I would love if they at least kept them as lateral (side step) thrusters for mixing up strafes and helping with 'nade spam.

Can’t wait until we get our hands on it.

I saw that too, the Spartan in Jorge’s armor. :frowning_face_with_open_mouth:

Imagine thinking a supersoldier should not be able to sprint fast lol.

They can, but they choose not to because they know better: a Spartan should always have his guns/nades ready!

Imagine a genetically engineered super soldier not being able to lie down on the ground, or jump off walls, or swim, or hang upside down and shoot, or do frontward rolls, or run and shoot at the same time or… Yeah, should I continue? This sounds like a pretty lame super soldier if they can’t even do these things…

Halo is a VIDEO GAME. Stop trying to make comparisons to real life, It’s not real life.

It is also a video game so sprinting doesn’t seem that bad nor that big a deal to get salty over…

Please, would you mind keeping the discussion over sprint being good or bad to one of the other bazzillion topics about that?

Could seem slower due to the FOV, but other than that it did seem pretty inconsequential. Which begs the question: why include it at all at this point?

I’m neither for nor against sprint but I like when people commit to their vision. Then again, we still haven’t seen how it fits into the whole puzzle.

It will most likely be possible to upgrade the speed in campaign due to the large open…ness…of the…semi open world. That way, if someone does not want to use a vehicle or if there are no vehicles, they will have that option to get around.

Yeah exactly, it’s a video game, So what’s the big deal if the sprint animation is in or not?? There’s lots of ways to make someone fast. I’m not being salty at all. I’m merely stating a point that it’s a video game.

They can actually shoot while sprinting, but the ingame mechanics have always been tuned for gameplay first, lore second.

@Thread: I have tried measuring sprint speed in the demo using frame counting, but it didn’t really work out because the camera is always panning, thus skewing the perception as you don’t have a fixed point of reference.
A very, very rough estimate(!) had sprint in the 2020 demo being 22% faster than BMS (compared to 57% in Reach, 63% in Halo 4 and 26% in H5G). But this value is nowhere near an exact measurement, take it more as a ballpark figure.
That being said, I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on that number anyways. The game is still in development and these things could still change over time. Remember how H5G reduced sprint speed after the Beta? Infinite could do something similar, or even go the other direction and increase it. Who knows?

Wow, that’s great that you actually tried to measure it! I know you said it’s just a rough estimate, but if it’s more or less acurate, it’s funny that sprint in Infinite is just slightly slower than in Halo 5 and yet many fans, myself included, are under the impression that sprint barely raises the BMS at all.

I like sprint. I’m not mad that it’s shown to be in the game. Slide mechanic is an extension of sprint as you need to sprint to be able to slide. Would I like to be able to shoot while sprinting? Yes but is it gonna happen? No most likely not. As long as the maps accommodate the movement abilities well I’ll be happy.

Player scaling seems to matter. I just hope the movement system works for some classic map remakes. I dislike how obnoxiously large H:CEA maps feel compared to the original counterparts. Headlong really sticks out

Doesn’t look that fast… Gonna be interesting to see how it works!
