So, I have a helmet in mind that I want to purchase…
It’s based off of Master Chief’s helmet from Halo 5 and looks very well done. I have done all the research and spoke with the builder and personally it is exactly like the one from the game. It is priced at $400.
Is this too much for a helmet that looks perfect? Or is this way too much for a helmet that I probably will let collect dust on my shelf…
Sounds like an appropriate price for such a product. Detailed, accurate, unique, etc. You could try waiting to see if NECA or TriForce Replicas decides to produce an official Chief helmet replica, as I’m guessing that would be cheaper, but it wouldn’t necessarily happen.
So, really, if you really want the helmet and are willing to pay the $400, I’d say to go for it.
Also, see if you can negotiate the price a bit. If the $400 is set in stone, then that’s somewhat unfortunate. However, if the builder/seller is willing, try to negotiate with them and you might (emphasis on might, because you may just end up unintentionally annoying them) be able to save a small bit.

If money is no object to you, by all means buy it.
I got the Titanfall 2 collector’s edition with the wearable pilot helmet off Amazon one night when I decided to make a drunk purchase, and it’s been worth it. That was about $200.
it’s a shame the 2007 collectors edition of Halo 3 didn’t allow the masterchief helmet to be worn.

It would be cool if helmet’s lit up like Guy’s, how he has the rainbow pattern along the sides.
I guess there are a lot of helmets which all look like Guys XD

I mean… there’s something like 6 or 7 “fishbowl”-style helmets (plus their skins)… all of which look like the one you are talking about.
Is it life-size / 1:1 scale? Is it wearable? Is it functional (does it actually provide head protection)?
Can you provide us with a link? We’d like to have a look at the helmet in question.
Oh yeah, you can also purchase the FOTUS helmet too. It only comes in one size, but the molding looks awesome!
I would totally buy a real life Master Chief helmet. Heck… Even hook up some Astro’s inside so I can play Halo whilst wearing my Master Chief helmet!

If you try that, make sure it has proper ventilation. I tried that with the $60 replica one I got at a comic store and it was a PAAIINNN
Is it just a cast or a completed prop? Because if it’s completed I can see the price tag, maybe a bit less. Most completed helmets I’ve seen sold from the prop makers I follow are usually around $300. But if it is just a cast you’re getting ripped off. You can buy a Mk VI cast for around $125-$150.
For a product like that, it’s pretty reasonably priced. If you’re asking if it’s too much for a product that is going to collect dust on your shelf, then that is a judgement call you have to make on your own. It’s a collectable that isn’t made to be used and is made for display only, so if you think $400 is worth it then by all means buy it. However, you buy it with the understanding that it isn’t made to be used unless stated otherwise.
If you have a job and if buying this item won’t severely impact you financially, and this item will bring you joy and happiness… I say go for it. There is nothing wrong with buying something you want
When it comes to collectibles, buy what you like. There is a limited market so you may not get your money back should you decide to sell it, but if you like it, you may never sell it.
id say that it depends of the person. If you really want to get it then go for it and if you think its something that doesnt matter and its not something you dont need then dont get it. It is your decision and your decision only (given that its your money that you are spending).
