That’s a real solid point, just saying “good” probably was not helpful. I guess I wanted to gauge where my skill is based on the community, any everybody has helped me understand this better.
Rank is kinda pointless. It’s so easy to boost and the MMR system is busted so there’s actual garbage in Diamond and Onyx. The only real marker of skill is your k/d and even that doesn’t tell the full story.
If your wondering how you stack up, check out this blog and look for the charts:

You’re no doubt “good” at Halo if you grind up to onyx. The fact of the matter is that most players will never get there.
I think what you’re probably curious about is whether or not you’re “great” at Halo.
Do you rotate well? Do you understand how to be effective rotating each ranked map?
Do you know how to manipulate spawns into your teams favor?
Can you be an anchor for your team if you need to?
Are you using advanced moves like the Strongside and Ghandi hop?
Do you know multiple advanced jumps on each map?
There’s a lot you need to master to be great at Halo, and the list goes way farther than that.
Plenty of good points. Would you recommend looking anywhere specific to learn some of these concepts and skills? I watch some pro streamers and see how they play a bit but I am curious if there are other methods.
Well, you already did the first thing, which is you’ve put the game time in to understand Halo’s fundamentals to success if you’re in Onyx.
Next I would say to watch some HCS broadcasts with commentary. They’ll often explain when a pro is using an advanced technique. The casters usually help explain why teams are rotating the three way they are too.
If you don’t want to watch a ton, you can watch the last 4 series of a tourney for the best pro gameplay usually. That would be the winners bracket semi finals, losers bracket semi finals, losers bracket finals, and then the grand finals (I believe) .
Supplement that with some YouTube creators like Shyway and you’ll have plenty of things you can practice to push yourself to the top tiers of onyx

thanks for this! I just hit diamond 1 and am thinking this is about where my ceiling actually is regardless of if I climb any higher by getting lucky with teammates or stacked teams. I say this because before about plat 6/Diamond 1 I would regularly go pretty positive in K/D every game and feel good about how I played. No I’m scraping to go even so I’m thinking I’m around my skill ceiling.
But I wonder why diamond 1 in each of the charts doesn’t follow the bell curve? any idea?
NVM, if I would have read the text under it, they explain it. LMAO

For me ,Onix players who only play with it’s team and can get 1700 or above is the same as diamond players who only play as lone wolf. It’s easier to get Onix with a regular team instead a diamond player who plays alone. In that way, an Onix player which only play with it’s team will have the same quality as a diamond player who only play ranked alone.
