Hey guys, I’ve been playing Infinite for a while now and I am just wondering how to know whether I’m good at this game or not?
I see a lot of talk about how hitting Onyx is “easy” and whatnot so I thought I would ask the community.
I’m currently Onyx 1577 and just want to know if I am considered “good” and, if not, what is considered being “good” at this game? I’ve played Halo since CE so this is not my first rodeo, but this is the first game I have focused on ranked play.
My XBL is DLClarke12 if you want to see my stats on TRN, maybe my K/D determines if I am any good or not? Or some other stat?

You’ll probably get a wide range of answers. I think any Onyx is good, even diamond.
I’m Plat4 and slowly climbing right now, I would put myself in the “not bad” category.

I guess it depends on the person you’re asking, but I’m with @BlueDevistator, I would consider Diamond and up ‘good’.

It really depends on who your asking, and what your goal is.
Compared to an average/casual player, you are no doubt “good.”
If you are trying to go pro and play at tournaments, you have a long way to go. There is a huge difference in gameplay between the top 3% and the top .1%

You were able to tell who was good at a glance. Now the top onyx players just look the same as the rest and I’m not looking at Halo tracker. I shouldn’t have to

Also anything 1700 and down is considered average. The 2000s is where your considered decent

I’d say none, considering you cant really lose rank till like D5 or D6 it’s not impressive.
Plus apparently rank means nothing and theres a hidden mmr used instead, so you can have a bad onyx or a god onyx 
He’s just talking shh tho. The true average of Ranked is Platinum. And it’s much lower than that if you consider all players outside of Ranked.
As an Onyx you’re obv on the lower tier, but that’s also influenced by things outside of your control (random teammates/latency,etc.), and it’s not what you asked.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I did not know about the hidden MMR so that’s a total shame. I might look into that more to be honest.
It would be cool to have a rank above Onyx for those top 200’s. I know I’m not THAT good, I won’t pretend I think I am godly or something. There are plenty of people I’ve seen above who I would consider better than I am using the eye test.

Getting Onyx is not “easy” by any stretch of the imagination. Just being Onyx means you are in the top 5% of ranked (as confirmed by 343’s rank breakdown).

. Also, Halotracker even states their stats are skewed (which is where I got that onyx makes up the top 7% of players).
I’d say being Onyx at all is good.

Onyx is top 5% of players. If being better than 95% of players doesn’t make you “good” at a game, you have some really weird standards going on.
I’d say you are “good” at Infinite well before Onyx. I consider anyone Diamond or above to be “good”.

Yeah “good” is a pretty low description that I would consider floating around at least slightly above average. So wherever top 45% is good. Then 35-30% is very good, and then great, excellent, etc. There are more words than good for describing skills haha.

anyone in Onyx is good. Now if you want to say someone is great (like pro level) than I’d say 1900+
Yeah. I think some players get confused and think “good” means “I never get dumped on or beaten badly by other players”, but because of how the skill based matchmaking works, particularly in ranked, that doesn’t ever happen until you are as good as the very top competitive Onyx 2200+ players in the game.
I’m Onyx 1550-1600. That’s sufficient to be “good” in this game. But I cannot compete at all with players Onyx 1800+. They dump all over me. And that happens with some frequency in ranked. But that doesn’t mean I’m somehow bad at the game - it just means those guys are absolutely insanely skilled. And the pros that are Onyx 2200+ probably dump all over them.
