How dual wielding could have been implemented

Instead of being able to mix and match different kinds of weapons, dual weapons you pick up should always include both weapons without allowing you to drop one.

In fact, Duel SMGs should be the only weapon that comes in a pair and should replace the SAW as a power weapon.

There could be some debate or not over whether you would be allowed to throw grenades but you could always switch to another weapon and then pull out both SMGs whenever you wanted to.

I feel like the SAW is just a more beefed up Halo 1 AR. Id rather have some of Halo 2’s duel SMG badassery as a power weapon.

I’m happy with how 4 is turning out to be now but I hope 343 does something like this with Halo 5.

The way to solve the problem of “you can’t throw grenades with dual wield weapons so ill just switch weapons, throw a grenade, and switch back” is to increase the lower and/or raise time when switching to or from dual wield weapons.

For reference I am talking about permanently bound weapon sets like you mentioned.

This whole page is interesting. In the process of reading atm. I never thought of a dedicated website to organize my ideas on.

After Borderlands 2, I would think that dual wielding would work a bit like the GunZerker’s GunZerk.

Press a button and you equip your secondary and you can fire until it’s out of ammo, at which it has to be sheathed again. Alternatively, this could apply only when people use two Primaries and you can D/W 24/7 if you chose with your Secondary. Reloading would take the total time of both weapons and accuracy reduced.

While I am not a fan of dual wielding at all, maybe it could work as a Support Upgrade; when you chose it, you get a second of whatever your secondary is. Accuracy and damage are the same for either of the weapons, but they share bloom and have slowed draw/reload speed. This would only work for secondaries due to their one-handed nature, and the weapon would be doubled to prevent a “noob combo” with a Plasma Pistol/Magnum or Boltshot.

Immediately imagines camping at a corner, seeing two dots walking closer, starts charging one Boltshot, halfway into the charge, starts charging the other Boltshot, rounds corner, one shots the first guy, then one shots the second guy.

Alternate idea: You can select double Magnums/PPs/BoltShots as a Primary Weapon.

It should have been in ODST and Reach and dual wielding should not be how you want it.

I would rather have a SMG and a plasma rifle at some point or smg and plasma pistol.

and that is the exact reason as to why they were so underpowered in Halo 3 and aren’t in Reach or 4.

Forget the individual duel weapons. Duel SMGs should be the only way to even use SMGs so that 343 doesnt have to spend countless hours balancing everything.

No duel plasma pistols. No duel magnums, no duel bolt shots. Just duel SMGs as a power weapon.

all this does is make duels suck really bad because duel wielding any combo of weapons has to be balanced against all other weapons. Thus making them not every powerful (and worth the lack of grenades or melee).

The Boltshot would turn in to a full shotgun when it charges so duel wielding would be pointless in some ways.

It is just my preference for dual wielding, besides weapon combos like those have saved me numerous times in campaign in both Halo 2 and Halo 3.

which is why SMGs should be the only duel wieldable weapon. In fact, you have to duel wield it since you wouldn’t be allowed to use one by itself.

Yeah but sadly it isn’t in the game, but maybe halo 5.
