I know this game is old, but it’s my favorite game so I still play it all the time. It has been ruined by the boot/betray system. I’m tired of a teammate killing me over and over again and not getting the option to boot them from the match, but then someone jumps in the way of my ghost as I drive by and I’m booted from the match immediately. This is honestly ruining the game for me so I was wondering if anybody could tell me how the system works, like how is it decided if you get the option to boot someone or not, and how is it decided if someone gets the option of booting you. I really want to know so I can avoid being booted
I think it’s random, but after a certain amount of betrayals it’s either very likely or guaranteed to give you the option.

The second betrayal on whoever allows that person to boot you. If no one’s boots you because they don’t feel like it you can betray as many people as you like.

For Grifball, Betrayal booting is disabled by default.
Otherwise, it is the second person who betrays that will give the other player the boot option. Reach and Halo 4 are programmed to forgive the first person, but not the second as the second person is seen as retaliating. Alot of people take advantage of it by team-killing others at the beginning of a game for a vehicle or power weapon due to feeling entitled to it, and due to this programming, they get away with it, yet if you retaliate to take back what you picked up, you give the other player the option to boot you.
Basically Bungie messed up on programming the betrayal system. Personally from past experiences, if somebody teamkilled me at the beginning of the match for any intentional reason, I would play out the match as normal, then at the end submit a player review, avoiding that team member, Unsporting Conduct being the reason.
i swear its rigged
Normally if someone wants to teamkill me in an attempt to try and get me to kill them so they can boot me…I usually just bug them enough in an attempt to kill me a second time so I can get the option to boot them. Though that is only in rare cases. Normally I just ignore them unless they are making it very obvious that they are intentionally trying to kill me for the hell of it.
