How does 'war games' actually work?

With war games basically being training in the lore of the series, how does it actually work?

Does the infinity have a holo deck type thing, if so how do they explain people disintegrating, or being stabbed in the head?

Or is it all on the mind? Are people linked in via the mind?

Anyone know?

Holo deck type thing

All we know is that there’s a huge holodeck they use to simulate the training areas. Think Star Trek holodeck, but most likely a much bigger room. It’s not connected in the mind, they’re actually all going around doing their stuff. I’m guessing the vehicles are real as are some/all of the weapons, but I doubt they use real ammunition. Perhaps just training rounds and empty Covenant/Forerunner weapons that have hologram projectiles that appear every time they “shoot”.

As for Spartans disappearing and dying, I just assumed that once they “die”, they get teleported away and have their body be replaced by a hologram that acts out a death animation and then becomes a corpse.

Of course, chances are that 343i never went that deep into thinking about how it all works out, but that’s the only way I see it working.

But how does it work when someone gets impaled on a flag, or disintegrated?

I think they are hooked up to some machine that generates a hologram that mimics their movements.
