I am so confused on how this specialization code works. Do I need to buy one to level up past level 70? Or do they automatically unlock? I just hate the fact I am having to pay real money to get the full experience of the game.

All I see is alot of angry people. So is it future DLC some people got early access to?
Well, the original plan was for 343i to release more specialisations to those with the standard version of the game when certain community milestones were met
If you bought the LE version you got early access specialisations to pick from once you reached SR50.
there was a promotion that ran from launch to the 20th November for all regions except the UK and EU, and simply for playing one game online during the promotion you would have been emailed an early access code
So, if you missed out on both of them, you will need to wait for 343i to open up more specialisations, rumoured to be early 2013, but nothing confirmed
Unless someone gives you a code or you buy one from an online auction site, you will have to wait sadly
