I’ve been told multiple times on both this forum and Bungie.net that the auto-pick up and the inability to drop flags promotes teamwork. Can someone explain it to me, because I still don’t know why it’s supposedly like that.
The inability to stealth flag cap is the only way the new settings force teamwork. Whether it promotes “more” teamwork is a subjective statement dependent on the skills of the team. If the team isn’t very good and doesn’t communicate, then the waypoints allow them to easily work together. If the team does communicate, then the waypoints don’t serve as much of a purpose. A good team would find the flag guy and call out his position, nullifying the effect of the waypoint.
It doesnt. No good objective player thinks it does. No good objective player ever will think it does. It is change for the sake of change, and a terrible change at that.
Being dependant on your team mates promotes teamwork. Sort of.

But it’s a change that will double the effort of teamwork in CTF. I frequent BTB a lot and usually CTF is never picked. In previous Halo titles. You had the flag and a Rocket Launcher you were a one man army in the base. 343 is making it so when you have the flag, theres no other choice that your team has but to defend you because you can’t do a damn thing except melee with the flag and shoot. The flag makes you the objective in the new CTF, an objective that is supposed to be defended during the time you have the flag. If you aren’t defended, you ain’t going to live long. That’s what 343 has hardlined.
Ok lets see if I can explain this, the new undroppable flag is suppose to make evry player think about what they are doing in game. Say player picks up rockets and his teamate with the flag dies in front of him, now this player has a decision either hold off the opposing team or make a flag run he can’t do both. If he picks up the flag he can’t get rockets but he might be able to get the flag closer to base or even cap it.
Many would say that this is less skillful as past games but really its on par and makes us develop new strategies as community rather then us using the same ones from past games.
As for auto pick up thats just so evryone keeps an eye on their surrondings.
You can no longer just drop the flag and outgun people, and kill them with your Rocket Launcher and 'nade them. You now rely on your teammates to kill enemies, while you just help.

Yeah, and you can always depend on being pared up with skilled team players that will go out of their way to help you score…
If you can drop the flag and defend yourself, and be independent, you are more valuable to the team than if you need to be babysat the whole time. But I guess it would make games more frantic and crazy if you can’t drop the flag… I just need to try it.
