If every spartan is going to have sprint then WHY not just increase base movement speed to make gameplay faster.
I find it very annoying to sprint , slow down , sprint , slow down …
Not to mention the annoying problem of double beat downs.
I dont see at all how this is innovation , its change for the sake of change
Sprint will have the disadvantage tho… It makes the spartan lower the weapon while running. Increased run speed does not.
When some (~50% of) people are moving from A to B, they enjoy being able to press a button and get there faster. I hypothesise that the attraction of Sprint is partly because it is faster than the base movement speed; as speed is relative, this effect means that people actively feel as though they’re moving speedily, as opposed to a ‘fast’ base movement speed which is interpreted as the norm.
Of course, not everybody wants this; there are arguments stating Sprint slows down gameplay, acts as a crutch, et cetera. But remember, Halo has both a competitive and a casual side. That Sprint doesn’t fit in with your mentality doesn’t mean it can’t fit in anywhere. Social is built to cater to what you might term casuals consider fun, not to maximize the skill gap. As such, for the Social set of playlists, the aforementioned arguments against Sprint are irrelevant; not because they’re incorrect, but because what you see as their negative implications are things casuals simply don’t care about.
To use a closing analogy, Sprint shouldn’t be removed on the say-so of competitives for the same reason MLG shouldn’t be removed on the say-so of casuals.
Halo has moved away from being an arena shooter with each iteration as shooters have overall gone through an up and down cycle in the last decade in which arena shooters are not the popular shooter to play at the moment.
People need to understand that Halo was never been a one hundred percent arena shooter such as quake. It has always been a hybrid. Every iteration since Halo CE has seen more and more of the arena shooter esque style gameplay be lost.
While Halo 4 will still be an arena shooter in some aspects, it now leans more towards modern shooters(battlefield, cod, etc) then quake/UT.
upping the movement speed and you become Tribes or Unreal, with the floaty feeling, this offsets gun play, and is already a problem in Halo. I think it would be an okay compromise to leave sprint in, but increase the base moment speed to what Halo 2/3 had. Something that feels much like an Elite with Sprint in Reach. Because you are right in fearing that Halo 4 will be slowed down because of it, look at Reach, if they could strike a nice balance between core movement, and sprint, than I don’t see an issue.
I’m a competitive player but I also know casuals should have this frustration too. at 4 in the morning I’m to tired to play MLG so I play team slayer, and it’s frustrating as all hell when you get someone 1 shot and then they just sprint away and you can’t chase or else you’re going to have to sprint after them, lower your weapon and give them a nice 2 shot advantage which could lead to your death. This is why I personally want sprint removed.

That makes no sense. In order for them to run AWAY they would have to turn around and THAN run, by then you have more than enough time to kill them.

Lolwut? You’re admitting you’re purposefully going into the playlist that’s not catered for you, then complaining when you find out it’s, uhh, not catering to you?
If this is a valid argument, then so is me saying MLG needs moar Monster Trucks.

Well, if it’s competitively balanced…
