How does ranking work exactly?

so i won 7 out of 10 matches with like a 8.1 kda. put in onyx 1. i won my first match, got 13 points. lost the next and lost 13, i was like ok thats a little lame that you lose the same amount of points. lost the next one, lost 12, won the next, gained 5? why am i gaining 5 but losing 13 when my w/l is positive and so is the KDA? just a little confusing

No idea. Seems random to me, but I’m sure there’s some explanation behind it.

Thats exactly how it should work. You should lose more if you lose against low ranking players than if you lose against high ranked players. Same with winning.

I get that and it’s fair but I don’t quite understand is it different from past skill ranking?

when i won the game i got 5 points in it was aganst all gold and onyx players. not “low ranked” players. i can understand if my team gets in a game with all non placed people, but…real? this is my fav type of ranking system, i just dont get the 5 points for a 50 to 48 match.

It’s random. I’ve had games where I’ve gone up 84 points in ranking which makes sense to me. What I don’t like is that you lose a ton of points if you lose a match even if you have a good game

343 can’t add. Deal with it bruh

trueskill 1-50 would be so much easier

I have no idea, I have a 10 KDA and won 7 out of 10 and I am a gold level one.

can you drop tiers? for some reason in onyx 1 i am getting matched with people that have never played the game and we are always against GOD with 4 controllers… just lost my 11th match in a row with more then a 2.3 kd each game…

This.

Perhaps win/lose should determine whether or not you go up/down in points but personal performance should determine how much?

That way if you win then you still go up no matter what, but if you have a bad game and get carried then you won’t go up by much (and likewise if you lose, but have a great game, then you won’t go down by much).

Seems fair to me, anyway.

Same here but even when I have good games I lose points

Ranking should be like this: 1-50lv
Gain\loose points based on on individuals. Performance
Win +1
Lose -1
Kill +.1
Die -.1

I don’t think kills and deaths should have anything to do with rank. I just read that the ranks are seasonal, like Halo Reach. Which is really annoying. I thought they already realized that people don’t like working towards something thats going to be deleted. I don’t think I am getting the game with a -Yoink- system like that. I’ll just stick the MCC if they ever get it working properly.

If kills matter for rank, people will start nading teammates and -Yoinking!- about kill stealing and stuff. It’s more professional and friendly to just be based on wins and losses.

I don’t think there is much sense behind the ranking. I had a really bad round and lost 15 points. Then I had a round where I did really well as an individual but my team lost and I lost 17 points.

I think if you’re on the winning team you should gain a rank if you’re in the top 50% of your team and lose a rank if you’re in the low 50% of the losing team. I also think there should be less space between the ranks. I want people to either stay the exact same rank, lose a full rank, or gain a full rank. I also want to only play with players who are about the same rank as me. It seems I am either in a match where everyone else is a noob or everyone else is way better than me.

It all depends on who you win and lose against. If you won/lose against someone of similar level you’ll gain/lose about 10 points for example. If you win against someone of lesser skill you might not gain any points at all but lose a lot of points if they end up beating you. If you win against someone that is of better skill you’ll gain more points but won’t lose much if they beat you.

This is pretty much just like how rank worked in Halo 2, only difference is that now you can see the numbers behind the rank instead of just being a 40+ and wondering whether or not the next game would push you up to the next level.

But you know, people will always find something to complain about, even if it’s what they wanted.
