How does Infinite show newer XBL tags?

I have an OG tag, but I was wondering how does Infinite handle newer tags?

Would Halo#1234 be just Halo in game? Or does it show the number? Does it show Steam names if linked, or only XBL tags?

Sure would have been nice to have actual Halo accounts and names for crossplay (similar to Destiny) opposed to XBL.

I’m assuming your name will be whatever tag you have assigned to your Microsoft account.

If you chose the tag Dave and it was taken and you got Dave49821, then that’s your tag, there can be only one Dave.

I see, that’s disappointing. Would have been much nicer if it was like Steam or even Destiny, where if you’re Dave#1234 it’ll show Dave just about everywhere in game, but when clicking a profile for a friend request you’ll see the tag.
