How Does Halo 5's Release Work?

I’m preordering Halo 5, but I have some questions about how release works. I believe that Halo 5 all launches at the same time, regardless of what time zone you are in. Am I correct in assuming that the game will launch at midnight on US Pacific time, since that’s where 343i is located?

I think the release is midnight whatever timezone one is in. So I think your assumption is wrong.

People (and the moderators) have said things like "The game will release at 7AM for me, etc.).

If it’s anything like MCC it will be 11 pm Central or 12 eastern. I bought it digitally so I was able to play at 11, if I wanted physical I would’ve had to wait til 12 my time

No. It will launch at 12:01 a.m. on the 27th in the U.S. But, people who live on the East coast will be getting the game about 2 hours earlier than the ones on the west coast because of timezones

If this past year of triple A game releases has been any indication I would imagine that the game will be released at 12:01 AM on the 27th on the East Coast both at physical retailers and unlocked online for those with digital downloads. Simultaneously the rest of the U.S. will also be getting their physical copies and downloads unlocked for their respective time zone so for example the West Coast will have theirs available at 9:01 P.M on the 26th. Again I’m merely basing this off of the triple A game releases of this past year. I’m under the assumption Halo will be no different.

What concerns me however, is how well this whole splitting up the limited editions on October 20th will go. My local Gamestop seems completely unaware of this set up and told me I would be getting my console on the 27th. It wasn’t till I came back a different day that they told me they were mistaken but still unsure. They were also supposed to have had the Master Chief/Locke individual controllers by now as well. Yet as far as the Bay Area of California was concerned apparently none in the area have even received orders for when the controllers will be shipped to the stores let alone knowing when they’d get the estimate for when it would. So that part of logistics is rather troublesome to hear…

I think it comes out on the dashboard at midnight where ever 343 is. Thats how destiny did it but bungie time.

Dude, it’s a global release, you download early with the digital, and install with the physical.

Everyone will get access either at 12am PST, or 12am EST, depending on which one they choose. More than likely it’ll be 12 PST

Every digital pre-order ive done wich is many go live @ exactly 9:01 Pacific time zone. I start playing games at 9:01 in Seattle when it’s 12:01 Eastern time zone  just a worthwhile bonus of digital …so on 26th 9:01 I will hit start and it will begin title screen loading and become playable

I’m just throwing this out there and playing devils advocate here, but I have a feeling that it might be based on 343i’s location timezone.
H5 multiplayer is meant to be run off dedicated servers which means the dedi servers need to be turned on and this won’t happen until the game goes live in seattle

For instance I live in australia and I know that Destiny’s taken king expansion wasn’t available to me until 7pm on the day of purchase even tho I purchased it at 9am (my time zone of course)

I’m in Australia as well dude. So, from what I’ve gathered the digital version of Halo 5 will be released to everyone at the same time? Do you know what time that will be in Aus?

it’s likely releasing at midnight on the east coast, so it’s 9pm in Seattle where 343i is located.
(I base this on the release of MCC and just about every major release on the One so far this year and last year.)

U.S. eastern time will get there hands on it first since we are ahead on the time zone by a whole 3 hours compared to PCT.
Therefore EST will get to play the game before anyone else in U.S. until your time reaches 2400 hrs. Oct 27th. Been this way for years.

Not since the One launched. I mean, physical midnight releases sure. But ever since last year xbox games have come out nationally at the same time. 12:01am on the east coast and 9:01pm on the west coast.

For example, I got to play Gears of War ultimate at 11:01pm during the midnight release since I’m in the CST.

9:01 Pacific time zone Seattle time

Midnight in your time zone

Game with release midnight EST. So 9pm PST.

Yeah guess I never thought about X1 releases!

This ^

Although in the past my friends on the east coast used to get games 2-3 hours earlier then me…which sucked.

It’ll either be once it hits midnight Eastern everyone gets it for their respective time or it’ll roll out and each time zone will get the game once it’s midnight for them. I prefer the first option because that means I get to buy and download it at eleven which means less of an annoying wait for it to download to the point where I can play at four in the morning.
