How does H4 match you with other players?

How does Halo 4 match you with other players? Since there are no preferences, does Halo 4 match you with players with similar amount of playtime? SR rank? Percentage of Commendations? K/D? Or is something else or random?

I’ve noticed that when I play Halo 4 online with my friend (who just bought Halo 4) that the players are significantly less-skilled. So I was just wondering how Halo 4 places us into each lobby with other people.

It’s not SR rank for sure. Isn’t it TrueSkill?

Badly

Lol it makes sure that your teammates are terrible and enemy players are in full party and all as good or better than you.

It uses true skill… Badly

not to sound too mean but, I think all my teammates live in an orphanage of mentally handicapped children. I honestly am amazed they figured out how to turn on their own xbox.

It uses Trueskill, every game on Xbox does. Also this thread should answer some of your questions.

i think its random more than anything

I either gets really easy games or really tryhards games, no in between. I find the MM system the worse ever.

Thank you!!! I honestly have no idea how most of the time I’m probably better off alone

Apparently it uses trueskill to some extent, though I think it prioritzes getting players into a game more then finding one with a good skill match.

Nah man thats all wrong, its obvious that the every time I get into a game, Potatoes are trying to play. But they go bad so people haveto buy new ones, potatoes are now in MM.

On a seriousness note TrueSkill is a metric whole bunch of -Yoink-. I was matched up to better skill in Reach and I guess they used that system too? Reach MM was WAY better at chosing players who will actually benefit your team. Not people who get 2-6 kills when you get 20+ (or even 15+). Its rediculousthe amount of games I har lost due to people just generally, sucking.

I am not trying to bash casual gamers, but c’mon guys you must want to win sometimes right?

Then how come Reach matched me better than Halo 4 if it used the same system? Not trying to be mean, and yes I have read that thread on how it works.

It’s actually true-skill?

I’ve been playing against enemies these days that are A LOT better than me. I don’t stand a chance against them because all my teammates are poor players who try to get as many kills as they can alone but just end up dying again and again. They also melee my shields down each time they recharge -_-

Games have a varying degrees of Trueskill. Some use strict Trueskill, some loose. Reach’s use was loose to allow for faster matchmaking unless you played Arena where it was much stricter. Same thing with Halo 3 social/ranked. Halo 4 uses a stricter form than Reach or social Halo 3, but I’m not sure if its as strict as ranked H3 or Arena.

Too all of those who are complaining about the game not matching up with players of similar TrueSkill. I can guarantee you that most of the time the other players in your lobby have a similar TrueSkill rating. The problem is with the system itself. TrueSkill only cares about who wins. Which doesn’t work for team games where most players search solo or in twos.

Sure, it would work great if most players searched in full parties most of the time.

I think it might have something to due with JIP and how maybe it averages the skill of everyone in the game and not the enemies and maybe throws players into a blank slot. So one team could have teamates bringing down the average skill but enemies that are crazy good

Anyway - The system is definetly not as strict as Halo 3, or Arena. It is actually very loose. Just look at the ridiculous K/Ds. Thousands of K/Ds are above 2.00, and 3.00 or even 4.00. Many are under 1.00. If the system had actually matched up people with equal skill these high and low K/Ds would be non-existent. People win 95% of their games, which clearly shows that they do not encounter any resistance - A system that matches up people of equal skill would prevent this.

I just got matched against M U R D A’s team in dominon. he is rated #1 in the world on htr. all my teammates were horrible. was an awesome fair match that i left in about 45 seconds. then i got matched against pistola, an mlg pro. i skyjacked his banshee just to be betrayed by an idiot teammate. i left that game too. then i got matched against M U R D A again…
this MM system they have going on sucks.
