How does Free For All ranking work?

Hi,

How does Free For All ranking work?

I was reading the blog about CSR and it said you rank up by winning games. In Free For All, does this mean 1st, top 3, top 4?

Thanks,

Chris

I believe it’s 1st place, I’ve completed 4 matches in free for all and my positioning was 2nd, 1st, 4th and 3rd in that order… and on my service record it says I’ve won 1 game and lost 3 so I can only assume getting 1st place is a victory…

I believe coming in the top four is positive for your ranking you dont need to come first.
I got placed in onyx without a single win.

Oh, sorry I mean I was just judging it off of my service record but If this the case it seems much more forgiving! I thought as it said I only had 1 victory I would be bronze but this update of news is promising!

Thanks for your replies.

2nd is my best position at the moment, and I was placed in Silver (I’m a rusty fortysomething!).

Good to hear that it’s top 4, I can work towards increasing my ranking now.

1-6 rank up at least in Onyx. 6th gets roughly 3-4 csr points all the way up to first which usually nets me 25+ csr points.

I think as long as to beat some one in a higher division it can determine your rank when qualifying. I only had 2 wins out of 10 but beat alot of diamonds and onyx but lost to some silver and in the end i was placed into gold 4. So i assume as long as you’re in the top 3-4 your odds look good but once you’re ranks only wins may boost you to the next tier. But i could be wrong about this, who knows?!?!

I play FFA pretty often and as far as I can tell as long as your not last you gain CSR. Really sucks because it makes ranks more time based then skill based.

It’s not based solely on what place you get, it is a combination of what place you get as well as your ranking compared to the other players. Lets say for example you are an Onyx 1700 and you get 3rd but a platinum 2 player gets 2nd. You are going to lose CSR while the platinum player will gain a substantial amount. The other side of the coin is an onyx ranked player that gets 4th but beats all champs is going to get a substantial boost in CSR while the champs that beat him won’t get near as much. As an extreme example if a champ was in an FFA game full of silvers and got second he would lose a ton of CSR while the SIlver that beat hime would jumo substantially. halo5arena.com is a nice tool to use when you’re trying to answer questions about your CSR because it gives you an exact breakdown of how many CSR points you gained or lost per match.

I think FFA should follow different ranking structure because its obviously much easier to achieve a high division during qualifiers, and much harder to move up once in a division.
