How does FFA Ranking work?

How do you progress through FFA Ranks? Is it first person ranks up or top 3?

In my experience, I’ve gone up from any place that’s not last, you just have to do decently, and your rank meter will at least go up slightly.

When you say decently, can you elaborate on that?

It depends. What are you asking for? After placement or during?

I did a quick look into this in the MM Archives. This is what I found:

The larger the gain based on the level of the players you beat. Vice versa with those you lose against. Basically the best place is to at least be in the top 3.
