1035$ USD for every cosmetic the first season. You could buy 2 Xbox consoles PER SEASON for the same amount of money.
This is the same stuff we got for a total of 40$ in the MCC. The same stuff we got for a total of 60$ in Reach and Halo 3. I mean, clearly 343 thought about this, and still went with it. How does everyone else feel?
Uhh this is pre-official launch btw. The beta includes and carries over all things for the final release. It’s disgusting that right now it costs a fortune and by the end of season 1 it will be soooo much more.
I remember the rage people had because of post-release dlc being locked ON DISC, behind a paywall. This is so much worse and a lot of people don’t realize it because it’s free to play.
If I’m honest I feel like a chump because I was so blinded by the hype I didn’t think critically about what they were doing with this predatory monetization scheme. This is really bad and the worst part is the gameplay itself is close to peak Halo. Not quite Halo 3 level, but closer than 343 has ever gotten to it.
It’s the point you made at the end that hurts the most. This wasn’t an accident or a mistake, it was done by careful design. None of the diehard Halo fans wanted this “free”-to-play model. I would’ve gladly paid $60/70 for a full game, but I won’t even buy the campaign now unless they radically change course right away with this predatory progression system. Don’t want to support this at all.
Guys game development is so expensive these days. It’s just not like it used to be. Bobby Kotick is going to be homeless if games only cost $60. Honestly, if you think about it, $1035 is good value for money, and you even get a sense of pride and accomplishment when you get everything! Think of all the developer’s kids who would starve if you could get this whole thing for just $60. Won’t someone please think of the children???
I dislike how it works, how obscene cash shop is, and how little progress you get out of it all. But at the same time I don’t care much either, at least not this season. I don’t think there’s nothing worth grinding for.
$20 for an armor set is beyond ridiculous. I could see $10 with the condition that none of it is restricted to a “kit” and I can use it freely across cores. A number of the Yaori armor sets being paid is a joke too, especially when over half of the unlocks are XP boosts for the event.
I have to hand it to games like Deep Rock Galactic that give you a ton for your money. For $14 I can reskin every single weapon and get new interchangeable outfits for four characters. Here that won’t even get one set of armor. I’m happy to give those devs money because they over deliver on content. I want to be able to feel this way with 343, but with the current system I just can’t.
I’m not gonna pay for the colour white. The game-play is good, literally everything else is just -Yoink!- awful.
Whoever made these systems should be -Yoink!- fired.
If you buy everything in the game, you deserve that L, because you can’t wear all that at the same time anyway. Why would someone want to buy every skin, emblem, and armor piece in the game, when they won’t even wear them? You’d have to be addicted to changing your cosmetics like you change clothes every day.
I feel pretty good about it. It’s designed so you buy the odd thing occasionally. They release so much so they can encapsulate as many people’s tastes as possible. It isn’t designed so everyone buys everything. Realistically there might be one thing in the shop every couple of months that I want to buy, if that. So far I have bought the battle pass only. There is pretty much only a few things I want in it but it’s only £10.
At the end of the day I get a better game as a result. So I love this system and will continue to support it.
This is exactly it. Unless you have some kind of FOMO addiction, you’ll see most of this stuff as trash, and maybe once or a few times a month, you’ll see something you actually like, and everyone has different tastes.
It’s a replacement for loot boxes. Now you just know what you’re paying for. 343 really needs to re evaluate the decision to include micro transactions (really macro transactions) because Halo never had their signature armor customization locked behind a paywall like the other crap games. This is a new low standard that I never expected. Battle passes need to die and never show their faces in Halo again. You can leave the non-halo armor for purchase like the Samurai stuff and other non Halo designs and allow for the rest of the armor to be unlockable by progression without purchase.
Hugely agreed, particularly in reference to Infinite’s value when compared to Reach, etc.
I almost considered buying the battle pass (would be the first battle pass I’ve ever bought anywhere,) but couldn’t do it when I realized how ridiculously long it would take to unlock, that I couldn’t use it campaign, and that it wouldn’t even get me everything I was seeing.
This monetization is just wildly insulting, but I imagine they intentionally started off this crazy to see what they could get away with, then reduce prices for black friday and act like the good guys.
Putting my opinion about OPs post:
I don’t really care, I somewhat expected it to be around that price-tag tbh. I don’t care about skins unless they’re obtainable in a unique way.
Absolutely awful, I care about cosmetics in games and Halo has historically had really good customization, it’s incredibly disappointing to know that it’s been ruined by monetization.
Everything should be earnable. Make it hard to earn, but make it earnable with a paid subscription or let me buy the game AND subscription. But enough with paying for individual items. This is Halo, LEAD by example. Stop following.
Ah, I can see you’re back to dismiss every negative criticism people have with the game. You were active a lot on the MCC forums too, trying to diminish any feedback people had to improve the game, and now 7k players remain on that game.
I have to admire the dedication you have to impede any progress and kill the franchise. It’s very brave of you.
