How Does Co-Op wrk in semi open world?

It’s a very huge play map, but my question is how does it work with multiple people going in and of Canpaign, do they all get teleported near each other when far apart?

My guess or how I’d like it to function at the moment is so basically, when not following Campaign lvls and roaming around doing different things, you do not get spawned to the last person alive should you die.

I think it should be optional for regular roaming and linear Canpaign style, since they say the linear style of play is still there, but you can go off into other activities. Choosing to spawn at the death of your location across the map or next to your buddy should be optional regardless. I also assume that once somebody enters a Campaign lvl, that the play space might be restricted down and have closed off surroundings until completion or choosing to exit said lvl.

How do y’all think it’ll operate?

In previous games when a player goes too far ahead, the persons who behind would be teleported to the other. I assume Infinite will implement a similar system, with the exception of it being a set distance from the player hosting the game rather than whose ‘ahead’. Since the game appears to be akin to an open world.

It might be tethered based which I have bad memories of from the game Ark, it could be a teleport system like Ibco13 mentioned or it could actually be open world without a area restriction which would be interesting to see

In open world games you cant really say who is “ahead” and “behind”, I’ve seen other games limit the distance you can be from the party leader. This is intended to limit the amount of assets loaded in to keep the game running smoothly. As far as respawn, I imagine it would be similar in that you respawn on the party leader as default, but maybe you can cycle through players in your party. Kind of like Reach’s buddy system respawning in some game types.

I think if you are just wandering around and not in an active mission area then you could probably wander wherever you want to apart from other players. Once somebody activates an objective or progresses a mission you’ll probably be teleported to that player. They might limit you on how far you can wander when playing split screen, as I imagine the strain of rendering two completely different parts of the map on one console, especially xbox one, could be pretty bad.

I’m sure that’s the least of their issues. As much as we’ve been trained to think game developers only know how to sell unfinished products and broken games, I think this feature would be a priority to get right.

Also keep in mind 343 is familiar with the Xbox one at this point, and they built a new engine for Infinite as well to support the game. The likelyhood of them screwing things up on it would only come from incompetence.

Plus it’s a simple mechanic that’s been around forever. 343 isn’t inventing rocket science, there are blueprints out there for them to get it right.

I’m basically saying the game system doesn’t have a problem, but rather that the only chance of failure comes from the developer end.

I would like to see if there could be a teleporting option to whoever player but the players have to vote on it so it doesnt get spammed
