I recently got the commendation for a variation of the mantis. I used 1 out of my 3 and got REQ’d without killing anybody. I know that the mantis got seriously nerfed from halo 4 but how do you use the halo 5 one?
edit: not commendation, the thing where you are allowed to use it.
It’s similar to the scorpion in that you NEED to be around your team for it to be of any use. They will need to protect you from EMP, camo, and other things that’ll get you boarded.
As with Halo 4, it’s more of a support vehicle so don’t expect to get many kills with it unless you are using the ONI Mantis, which has rockets similar to the campaign mantis - they lock on to infantry.
I do not use any Mantis other than the ONI one. They are not that good if you are trying to get a lot of Spartan kills. They are, however, quite good at holding an area down/zoning the other team away from a boss.
Oh, and avoid using the stomp attack as much as you can. Nine times out of ten it’s best to keep moving away from an enemy and to keep shooting them than to go for a stomp. Stomp in Halo 4 was good but it’s bad in Halo 5 because enemies can thruster away from it. And now you can’t move and have an exposed back.
So unless it’s one of those rare instances where stomping is absolutely necessary… don’t.

While it’s true you shouldn’t use the stomp, I WISH we at least had an exposed back. You can be boarded from the front, and through the stomp!
Don’t stomp!

1)Plz use the edit button and say what you want, so it filters it, or change it completely, as you’ve seen me do with the quote.
- Be the ball!
Sadly in Halo 5, unless you’re using an aerial vehicle you’re going to have to take on more of a support role. You can’t just go solo to an enemy base with a vehicle and expect to get much done. You HAVE to have teammates around to be able to put a vehicle to use. It’s just too easy to get boarded, emp’d, hijacked or just plain ol’ blown the -Yoink- up in Halo 5. Going in alone is just a waste of points and a card.

You can change what I say? Are you a monitor?
Keep your shields up, stay around the team. Guns are great. Remember- the weak point on the Mantis is the crotch (I’m serious, right between the legs)
Now it’s a defensive vehicle so I only use them when on defense due to its shlow health and sheilds its only good on modes like assualt of ctf on when capturing the flag. You need at least escort with warthog and spartans protecting you from emp
The mantis is rubbish, maybe with the exception of the ONI mantis.

I can only change what you said in my quoting of you. Otherwise, I can’t [Pickle], nor [IceCream].
[FriedPickles] may have [Cucumbers] for you, so it’s all good

I never said the -Yoink- thing. I actually said the word but with a * for the I. I thought you meant that you changed it because my original quote was changed. Also, I looked at your profile and you’re in a Spartan company of only monitors and friends of monitors. So are you a monitor or a friend of one?

"How do you do Mantis?"
Like people have said above, stay close to your team mates, keep your distance and pick people off.
I think the mantis needs to be completely redesigned because I see no need for two tanks. I would much rather that they remove the stomp and replace it with a thrust and remove the missiles and replace it with an ability that can repair vehicles or something like that
I’ve used the mantis twice. First time a spartan jumped out from a hidden spot and hijacked from the front (YOU CAN HIJACK FROM THE FRONT NOW?? WTF!) And the second time I just simply got mowed by three different spartans with power weapons.
The mantis just kinda sucks now. The bloom from firing is just as dramatic as it was in 4, it seems to less damage than a standard warthog and the missiles are trickier now since it fires them all at once instead of being semi-auto.
I have never ever used one. I have several cards for them. Might just spank them in Noctus one day for fun!

Oh no my friend… ARMOUR LOCK!!!
That’s right Armour Lock should return to the Mantis as it’s part of its urban destruction defenses. How else can it bring a building down around itself and survive?
IF Armour Lock activated as we lifted the foot stomp, and maintained for a manual hold of the melee button with a cooldown timer… It could be prevented from being spammed while possibly being useful for the role of the vehicle.
Now of course, what does AL do for the Mantis?
- Prevents/Stops boarding.
- Boarding opponents or those that attempt to physically touch the Mantis have shields stripped.
- Vehicles that touch the locked down Mantis are equally EMP’d… Duh!
- Creates immunity to all forms of damage (except falling into an abyss).
As said, it’s on a cooldown timer, and can be held and maintained, so though stomping can be “spammed”, using AL itself can’t be done, and there can be a some timing lenience to incoming damage. However, should be allowed to be used within relative succession.
Just for fun, I’d still like the stomp’s splash increased in damage and area of effect. BECAUSE, we can board from the front!
Bring on the Locus and let it have cloaking abilities!
