Just the title.
This gun is so god -Yoink!- hard to use effectively in CQB, if you scope, it has by far the biggest flinch of any rifles, and if you don’t scope you will just lose 90% of fights.

Why are you using it CQB anyway? Magnum?
I use it in BTIS. Find a decent perch that’s not a sniper hole and plug away in scope mid-long range.
No scope if you’re going to CQB it.
I find it a difficult gun as well (just starting to use it more), but I’ve been getting results this way.
Good luck!
you can do 2 zoomed headshots and a melee in cqc and its a kill
It’s the best gun for the Campaign, and it’s a bit of a cross between the DMR and BR but not at all over powered.
The non-scope is instant burst fire, not too strong but still good.
The scope version is the gun’s strength through, four shot kills over the DMR’s five.

Good point. Forgot how much I used the hell out of that gun in Campaign.
I’ve been using it a lot lately and I always try to get my first shot to land scoped in, and then scope out for close battles, which will still result in a 4-shot kill with the last shot being a head shot.
Mid range combat is its specialty. Its pretty much a stronger Covenant Carbine.
I don’t really use it that much but it has potential. Unlike the Carbine.
You have to get used to the LR with it’s odd kill times with scoped/unscoped. It’s a regular 5sk unscoped, 4 if scoped. Plus, it’s not hitscan like the other weapons but unlike Halo 3, you don’t have to worry about your shots disappearing in mid air and not register.
If you can compensate for flinch and keep your reticle on the target, the LR shouldn’t disappoint. It’s a nice change of pace away from the DMRs and BRs, whom the former is incredibly powerful and easy to use.
The LR at least has drawbacks but it is good in it’s own right. I’ve heard some players in some competitive circles going beast mode with it.
That’s my best input on the LR. Experiment and go crazy
1 shot zoomed + 3 shots un-zoomed = 4 shot kill
I don’t understand it much either myself, When used right it has a 4 shot kill which is superior to the DMR and BR, but I find it difficult to used while scoped.
Gotta keep that thing zoomed. I use it on larger maps and just pick people off with it. Haven’t used it extensively but that seems to work so far.
I think you could summarize it by saying that all the starting weapons are almost equal but the human guns are less specialized. More general use.
i use my lightrifle for long range and firepower with the supressor for close rang… try it it is a gr8 combo
> I think you could summarize it by saying that all the starting weapons are almost equal but the human guns are less specialized. More general use.
No. I know for a fact that most starting weapons are not that balanced or even close to almost. The DMR can outplay just about the other rifles unless you choke. Unlike the other guns, there is no downsides.
Carbine has the least amount of aim assist, slowest kill time, and fast ROF which really is drowned out by the first two major downsides. It’s not balanced, but rather its about as useful as the Reach AR. Most players i play use the Carbine and they just get destroyed. Not so much if they choose the other guns though.
DMR has range, no bloom, solid ROF, and no recoil. Best utility rifle in the loadouts.
BR is my favorite weapon but it’s just not that good compared to the DMR (but certainly above the Carbine). It has less range, more recoil (with flinch, it makes it harder to aim) and it’s burst fire plays against. It requires all 3 bullets to land to equal one DMR shot but those can miss (and miss they will because of strafing and jumping), meaning you are doing less damage to the other player ;/.
I have no qualms with the automatics, they work as they should and for once, not a joke but a serious threat. Not sure where to place the LR yet.
> you can do 2 zoomed headshots and a melee in cqc and its a kill
I know that little cute trick, but it’s such a dumb idea to go for melee kills in this game though, unless you want a crappy ratio. There are just too many other guns that can just out match you in that 2 shot + melee time frame. and with a 3x zoom, long strafe in CQB just destroys the crap out of your aim.

Cuz aiming and pulling the right trigger is harder somehow with the LR than with the DMR or BR, or Magnum… or any sniper rifle… or anything else with a scope.

first its a terrible weapon to use in CQB use a magnum or better yet a boltshot. Next the sights for this gun are what make it difficult to use since the rounds only go were the small circle is, otherwise your almost guaranteed to miss, this rifle is a 3 headshot kill if EVERY 3 ROUND BURST HITS YOUR OPPONENT SQUARLY IN THE FACE a difficult task due to bloom and recoile. Best advise is to practise with it alot in BTB and aim with the small circle.
i think it’s a great weapon, i use it along with the br in my load out, the only part that i have trouble with is telling if i gotta head shot or not, sometimes when i lose a battle against someone i die thinking “but i thought i shot that guy in the head D:”

The DMR does have bloom and recoil (you can tell just by watching the sights)and it takes the LEAST amount of skill to use (good beginers weapon) once you become a good aim then the light rifle beats out every other precision weapon (3 headshot kill) it also takes the MOST skill to use effectively.
