How do you think the armor system should be?

I’d like to know how you guys think the armor system should be put into Halo Infinite. The reqs of halo 5 are great, require a LOT of grinding, and are a DECENT concept, (cash payment broke them) but they should have a better system if they do reqs. I think they need to keep reqs and armor seperate. The armor needs to return to the way it was in either Halo 4 or Reach. Not too many items to choose from but a hell of a lot of fun with the different combos. Now how to unlock them is a bit trickier than the other Halos. I think they should have a combo of Halos 3 and Reach. Now, the only difference from 3 would be not having the multiplayer achievement unlocks. I believe this method needs to focus more around the campaign. Example, EOD helmet: Complete the campaign on Legendary. Another is like the orbital helmet: Complete all the Legendary par scores in the campaign. Now certain pieces could be bought, example, Mjolnir Mk. V hemet: rank 29 and 200,000 credits. But some pieces need to be discovered. Throughout the campaign there would be spartans that have on “special” armor. These would normally be on timer, you could also compare them to BOB from Reach, be at this location between 3 and 4 minutes, but some would be stationary. A good example might be Pilot at Crash Site on… Level name… Hydrophobia. Just interact to report KIA, or just a nice line of dialogue between the two. So you’d have to buy, earn, and find certain armor pieces. This should be accomplishable offline too, just extremely difficult. As for the weapon skins, same general concept. Sharkface AR: Complete the campaign on normal or harder, etc. Maybe someone can explain my idea a little better than me, but to those who understand my gibberish, that’s my stance on unlocks.

Frankly? I stopped reading at “reqs of halo 5 are great”. Sorry man, but no. Just no.

Wow, maybe you should’ve continued reading, since I said they were broken and weren’t a good idea for armor and customizations.

A combination of Halo 3, Reach and 4 would be amazing:

  • A handful of armors are exclusive to unlocking achievements or milestones in the game and cannot be obtained any other way. - Have a few cosmetics scattered in between rank ups. - Have the rest would be unlocked via a Reach style progression system with the player unlocking them first and then purchasing them with in-game currency like Req points or Credits. That’s what I would want to see anyway.

What I think will happen - Infinite will adopt a battle pass system, but will also have a few armors exclusive to achievements.

You’re stupid! I cannot say that enough. If there is a battle pass, it will have ALL the unlockables. You’re stupid!

In an honest world, like Halo 3 but expanded upon. Where each armour set looks nice and has good visual variety, just with more customisation and unlocked through in-game challenges or achievements.

If monetisation is necessary then overwatch style would be my go to, something that can be earned through gameplay, or like Siege or something. Just not locked behind a paywall or by playing a certain gametype.

If necessary then 343 need to get their act together as the effort put into the armours in 4 or 5 was clearly with creating an abundance and not quality, they nearly all look horrid. Either because they don’t look human or because they look like the design of a cheap phone knockoff game.

ya, that’s one way to make everyone ignore any form of discussion with you.

This descended to madness pretty quickly.

To answer your question, I would have a BUNCH of achievement based unlock, with anything else being DIRECT purchases. Base unlocks would be all the Armor from 3 and a few new/Reach.

Direct Purchase as in cash, or req points? I can live with req points, but cash? No. That’s what broke the req packs in 5.
Also! The achievements. If you read my opinion, you’d know that I’m all for it, but nothing that relies on solo skill, since in Halo 3, getting the armor means getting EXTREMELY lucky as to either find helpers, or friends, and since you need to be within 10 levels of each other, and cannot be in a party, the latter seems highly unlikely. Something that someone can actually obtain in the real world.

in my opinion it should be a mix between H3’s and HR’s, so we can both buy armors and unlock them completing challenges or achivement

Optimally, achievement & commendation unlocks with possible rank unlocks.
Purely skill based, you know what you would like to aim towards, no boosters, no microtransactions & no BS, just player skill.

Second option would be more evened out credit system.
Risk of boosters but working towards desired armor pieces is optimized.

I wouldn’t even consider RNG based systems as option.
I don’t even think I need to bother to comment on this sack of feces of an option.

Tbh, no. Any grind with rng and I’m out, it was the final straw for me in Halo 5.

100% YES!
Quality over quantity every time. Halo 5 had far to many armour sets, and a lot of them looked identical to others just with minor changes.
And I’m a big believer in armour locked behind specific achievements and challenges. The Katana in Halo 3 could only be unlocked by earning 1000 gamerscore in the game and you could wear it with pride. But obviously some armour will be locked behind whatever progression system they choose to implement, and I’m OK with that too.

I hope it’s got a mixture for the unlocks. Have unlocks through achieving goals, doing Campaign legendary, get a perfection, stuff that’s hard and rare that aren’t based on luck.
Also unlocks from experience points like reach. So your time in the game is worth something. MCC and Halo 5’s ranking and unlock system is rubbish

Honestly I don’t see why everyone loved the achievement unlocks in Halo 3. Having to get steppin razors? In lone wolves? Are you kidding me!? Overkill in lone wolves? These are EXTREMELY difficult and are based purely on -A- luck. -B- if you don’t get killed first, because let’s face it someone has a shotgun. They need to stay away from skill based. Make it more available to those who work hard for it. Much like the Halo 3 EOD armor, except with a few more twists. Now, I can deal with Too Close To The Sun, I acctually got that by lazering a Banshee on The Covanent. Something like, Used Car Salesman. Nothing relying on only a specific playlist like Lone Wolves. Those achievements sucked for armor that sucked even more.

Like I said, something more for like completing every mission in the campaign on Legendary without dying. Another would be for completing a match of Mythic Warzone Firefight without calling in any reqs beyond loadouts. These don’t require you to find idiot players, but it still requires skill.

Please for the love of God, don’t have requisitions! I hated how random they were in Halo 5. I had so many moments of playing to get a gold or silver pack only to be disappointed, and left not wanting to play the game after that. I want there to be an unlock system like Halo 3, Reach, or 4. I want to work for the armor I want. I don’t want to work for armor I don’t care about. You can call me selfish, but I just want to have fun with the game. Getting mad over a Halo game should resort to dying repeatedly on Legendary, not a cosmetic unlock system.

Also, please let me unlock armors offline. I hate how I can’t unlock the armor in the MCC version of Reach offline when I could in the original version on Xbox 360. Same with Halo 5.

While I can’t speak for everyone, I myself liked them because they rewarded you doing a difficult challenge. You were rewarded for accomplishing something. Something like getting all the skulls to get Hyabusa was cool because it made me feel rewarded and the armor was worth something. In Halo 5, I didn’t like unlocking armor because almost all of it was unlockable the same way, which was through the req system. At first, I was excited to get something in the req system because it would be random, and I could get anything. But after realizing that there were hundreds of different armors, and that the ones I really wanted were the more rare stuff, I eventually stopped caring about common to rare stuff, and even some ultra-rare stuff. Every time I’d open a pack, I’d get less and less excited, because while I did know that I could get something I wanted, I was disappointed too many times to care. It just made me wish for an unlock system that was in any of the other Halo games. So yeah, it’s ok if you like the req system. I just hope you understand that many people don’t.

Also, I can’t forget about how the req system is monetized. Another factor that made me not care about my armor in Halo 5 was because of how anyone with a wallet could just buy gold packs with real money, which further cemented how I felt about all the armor I got. Any of the armor in Halo 5 to me is worth nothing, because anyone could get it instantly without working for it. Even with Helioskrill. I got Helioskrill the hard way by beating all the campaigns in Halo MCC. Now, even though people can get Helioskrill in the req system, Helioskrill holds a bit a worth to me because of my work to get it. As for the other armor? Not really. One armor piece that was difficult to get and worth getting in one game could become worthless in another. In Halo 3, EOD was worth something because you had to beat the campaign on Legendary to get it. In Halo 5? You get it in the req system, like any of the other armor in the game.

I agree with the most. The combos idea is excellent. I would make it mostly like H3, it required you to do any sort of crazy stuff to get the armors. My problem with Reach’s system is that you could be bad, the worst player in fact, but with simple patience you’ll unlock everyhing. Plus, if you wanted specifically the last helmet, you have to go through all the other ones. No longer “managing to forge and skip the sanbox turrets to get to the skull” or “beating the last mission with 4 players in ghosts without dying” to get the exact armor you want. Each one has a unique task to fail at countless times before you get it. Halo 4’s system kinda followed H3’s, you had to get the “On the brink” achievement like hundreds of times for thee cyan visor, which I can’t tell you how hard it was and how much I had to practice.

BUT PLEASE, DON’T MAKE EMBLEMS AND ASSASSINATIONS UNLOCKABLE.

That second sentence almost gave me a stroke…I’m assuming you played Halo 5 first before Reach and 4.

No, I didn’t play Halos 4 or 5 until LATE, since 343 overpowered the Forerunner weapons in 4, and ruined 5’s armor and unlock system. If this is to who I think it is, I’m saying to limit the req system to weapons and vehicles, however have a better system than just at random. Say you bought a gold req pack. If that’s the case, it contains 15 reqs, for example. No more customizations. Yes weapon skins, but that’s about it. So 2 permanent reqs, 5 reqs from the certification cycle, 3 random non-certification reqs, and 5 random reqs from your certifications. The certification cycle is like this, all the weapons are sorted. ABC order, whatever, I don’t care how, but if a weapon is in the cycle, say a Shotgun, Sniper, and RPG, let’s say those are next. Spnkr Prime, Shotgun, and Sniper Rifle would be the next three reqs from the gold pack. However, this cycle is different for smaller packs. The silver reqs have their own cycle so while the gold is on S, and the bronze is on Z, the silver could be on G. Have a system, not all random reqs.
