How do you refer to the replacements?

In the Halo: Encyclopedia, the replacement ring for Installation 04 was called Installation 04B.

But in the Spartan Field Manual, they call it Installation 08. And the second replacement is called Installation 09.

Which do you prefer? Personally, I think 04B and 04C makes more sense. Calling them 08 and 09 sounds like brand new Installations, rather than a replacement for an old one.

Indeed, Installation 04b and 04c is the superior way to refer to the Rings, as they are replacements, with nearly identical geographical landscapes and meant to be positioned in the exact same orbital path as the original Installation 04.

Changing them to be ‘Installation 08 and 09’ is completely nonsensical and yet more poor choices from 343i.

I kinda wish we stuck with the original naming convention. Not really sure why anyone thought it was necessary to deviate from that. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Even for the lore nerds like me, it’s weird having Installation 08 and Installation 09, since that starts to muddy the waters with the Neoteric Array and the Senescent Array. One had seven rings while the other had twelve, so having Neoteric Array numbers above seven starts to make things confusing.

Truly the naming scheme of fictional superweapon hula hoops is whats wrong with Halo these days smh why didnt I just nitpick asinine details like everyone else? Curse you 343! You’ve made a slight inconsistency and I am miffed about it!

Literally not even a real issue.

I personally prefer Installation 08 and Installation 09.

They are both Alpha Halo. But are not Installation 04 as that was destroyed.

A good way to view it is like “Alpha Halo” is what it is. But the Installation number is like a serial code.

Personally I always preferred reffering them by their Greek alphabet designations.

Alpha, Delta, Zeta, Gamma Halo and such.

I would like to see one of the “newer” smaller halos carry the “Omicron Halo” designation as a joke, though.

I don’t think it’s an issue. I just have a preference, that’s all.

It is just another symptom of the larger issue that has plagued the franchise for a decade at this point: 343i simply has a inferior creative team that just doesn’t understand Halo and never has.

That is the flat out stupidest, most ignorant pile of trite I have ever read.

That’s cute.

Regardless of what you think (of which if you have a problem with my thoughts on this, you should most likely just put me on block or ignore what I’m saying because we’ll never get along), this was another bad, dumb decision made by a studio that has blundered one title after the next for the past ten years, resulting in the franchise losing all of it’s industry clout and prestige and is now more of a joke than anything else and losing most of it’s fans because of poor gameplay and story choices. Is this designation the ‘source of all of Halo’s current problems’? No, like I said, it’s a symptom caused by a studio that is making poor decisions across the board. Out of their time with Halo, the best thing they’ve managed to do is Halo 4, and even that was a middling success that had more problems than wins. Everything else has been one mistake after the other.

You can’t really sit there and be blind to 343i’s failure to really do anything with the franchise other than to just continue to dig the hole deeper.

But more to the point of the thread: Installation 04b and 04c are replacements with no truly major deviations in design or orbital placement. If they were drastically different in design and being put somewhere else in the galaxy, then yes, they should be given new numerical designations, but they’re not. So thus, they should be called Installation 04b, 04c, and so on and so forth. The same should go for any other Halo Installation that is destroyed.

The only one that should receive any sort of new numerical designation is whichever Halo is the older, larger one from the original Halo Array before the ‘modern’ one that we’ve largely experienced was built. Those Rings were older and any Ring that would be built to replace them would be so different as to warrant being called ‘Installation 08/09’.

Installation 04b and 04c make more sense to me. Installation 8 and 9 make me think of the bigger rings due to there being 12.

Also the designation of b and c help show that its a replacement for the same area instead of a new number which could be confused for a new ring for another part of the galaxy.

04b/c for sure… why did they name them installations eight and nine??

My honest opinion?

04b/c because it’s easier to remember. Lol.
