I know this question has been asked before but I still don’t understand how it works. I usually rank in the mid plat. Area after my placement matches,which I’m ok with since I’m not that much of a competitive player. SWAT,however, is without a doubt my best gametype,and I decided to really go for a high rank this time,I won 8/10 matches, with a KDA of ~14 in most of them (1 or 2 bad games).
Since I lost a few,of course I wasnt expecting to get placed in onyx,but I was hoping for a good diamond rank. The game however,decided I was only worthy of plat.4.
Ive lost half my games before and gotten placed higher than that, so can anyone tell me how the ranking is based? Is it your win/loss ratio or your personal KDA? Either way I honestly think I should have been ranked higher.
Last night I went through the 10 placement games with a friend. We both won and lost the same games and he was placed at a Gold 5. I was placed as a Plat 3. I would say 5/10 games we played were against people of diamond rank. Neither of us were diamonds in SWAT. This is not the first time my friend and I have gone through the placements, only to put him much lower. Last season it put him as a Silver 1 and me as a Plat 3, from the same games played. I think the game pretty much goes off whatever your previous rank was. All I know is the ranking system blows.

Really? the only explanation for that would be like you said, the rank is affected by your previous rank. But if that’s the case what’s the point of placement matches in the first place? Just return us to our previous ranks and we’ll go from there.
I have played all of my placement matches with a friend in several playlists and it will place us differently every time. In breakout I was placed at plat 6 while he was put at plat 1 even though he was the mvp for more games. The previous season though I was onyx and he was diamond. From what I have seen previous rank and KD play a roll in deciding your rank but all around it feels very inconsistent.
I’ve also heard that your previous rank plays a role in what your new rank will be. I’ve also heard that winning matches is the only way to increase rank, but that you’ll never be bumped back an entire rank class for losing (i.e. you won’t ever go from gold to silver for losing, just go to the lowest gold tier).

thats true, but it stil feels jacked when you are diamond 4 and fall back all the way to diamond 1 because of a -Yoink!- team of incapable mórons… i understand fast matchmaking is important for most, but id rather wait a few minutes more if it gives me matches that are actually fair (no gold 1 vs plat.4 etc.)
Really wish I knew how they handle the whole set up.
A few nights ago I was playing breakout with two friends, a silver 2 and a gold 4. I’m Plat 3 and the random was a gold 5.
We got completely destroyed by a full onyx team with one guy being Champion 12.
Might have cried a bit.
I just placed for the first time in FFA today after placing first in 5 out of 10 games, top 4 in 4 games, and 6th in 1 game. I was put into Plat 4 which just seems super low considering everyone always talks about how easy it is to place high in FFA. I know other things factor into placement, but I played pretty damn well. Finished with a 9.2 kda, 42.5% accuracy, and dealt the most damage most games by a longshot. Maybe the one last place finish factored much more heavily or maybe it’s accurate, but naturally I feel otherwise.
Placements are dependant on a few things that are more or less strong speculation at this point from various threads. K/D is a factor in both FFA and team games, win/loss, opponents current rank, your rank from previous season, and medals earned (in objective based gametypes at least). Its hard to say if the system itself is broken out of they have over tweaked it to the point where it is self defeating. Word going around is next season should fix the issue where you get placed a full tier below your actual csr.

What do ya reckon about being placed 2 divisions lower than you should? Got placed plat in ffa twice now when i worked up fairly comfortably to onyx both times. Been placed diamond 3 once and still got to onyx ok. So the system clearly isnt good at placing me 
i mean i placed plat 4 this season amd am now onyx 1642 (was 1663), in the top half of onyx players. How wrong can it be? I hope they fix it otherwise i will not bother any longer with this system.
The worst part is it’s hard af to work your way up to onyx if you get placed in a low rank,unless you grind with a fireteam that actually knows what it’s doing.
I think 343 just doesnt have a clue and dumps you anywhere. Has been my experience. I mean how can it place you plat, dia, plat when each time in ffa i then get to onyx quickly. Cleaely the system is useless. I have posted multiple threads on this but 343 just ignores them.
If the system keeps being so inept we could at least get longer seasons to sort our ranks out. I will not play any more ranking matches until i get placed into onyx ffa like i should be if i get to onyx 3 seasons in a row. Clearly im an onyx player but the plcement system.is too stupid to work out my rank. I wonder how many people have been dumped in divisions 3 too low when i leep getting placed 2 too low. How many silvers are really diamonds and so on? And how many diamonds are really silver (iwish i got their luck lol)? Clearly the system is not fit for purpose
343i what are the criteria for tanking highly in placement matches. Would love to know why the system punishes me unfairly so much…
