I spent 9 hours today through trial and error getting a legit copy of Halo 2 for PC to work on my Windows 7 PC while signing in to my live account. Success! I did it! Now… I have no idea how to play MM and have no time left to research it. I’m sure it involves another 9 hours worth of googling and painstaking research to get that working.
Can anyone post a simple idiot proof way to get MM working? I’ll keep checking this thread throughout my long hours of work at my job this next 3 weeks.
NOTE: I’m not a PC gamer, hence why I suck at this kind of stuff.
UPDATE: Family Accounts don’t work.
Okay, it works on my extra Gold account, which tells me that sadly my main account just won’t work, because it’s a family account. This blows. Does anyone know a work around? I’d hate to cancel my family account, only to reopen it as Gold (if that’s even possible), just for some dumb achievements.
Press ‘LIVE’ in the main menu then choose browse servers and look for a game that has people in it (indicated by insert number here/16 people). It’s pretty simple, but there’s no playlists like the console versions. Players host games from their PC’s or use the dedicated server app which allows a computer to host a game when the person isn’t playing H2V (basically a 24/7 server).
Have fun with Halo 2, it’s very fun despite it being kinda dead!
Oh,… okay. I’ve been doing that, so I guess the population is just really that dead. I guess I’ll just leave it searching until I happen to see a game pop up. Thanks!
If you are not seeing any games (even empty rooms) then your game/Live is not fully updated or you have some adult content block on your Live account which is a recently found issue for H2V, if that is enabled you will not see any games.
The game does have playlists for dedicated servers and players can host their own matches and custom maps.
There is no real match making in the game, nor has there ever been.

Still no luck. I know for sure that my XBL doesn’t block anything at all on my Xbox. Does Live have a second set of settings just for PC? If it does then I must have missed it somewhere, because I think I looked everywhere.
Is your live account the family pack? Or is it an individual gold membership for one account?

My account is family, but the GT I use is the account owner and/or leader. I have nothing blocked or restricted for anything that I’m aware of. I hope you’re not going to tell me that family account owners on Halo 2 are glitched or not allowed.

It could also be your network at home. For some odd reason, some people need to forward or open certain ports for a particular computer or device on their home network. try starting here, and let us know how it goes…

Okay, in my router settings it seems that the Games for Windows app already has ports open for Live, and I even put it in my firewall exceptions list the way it’s explained on the xbox support site. Still no luck. I can still sign in, see my friends list, send messages, and get achievements, but no games are showing up at all still.
